Iv been looking into getting one of those tents for the bed of my taco but I also have seen a lot about the ones that are like rooftop tents and a better quality setup (and higher price point)

just was curious on feedback from y’all who have that setup or something like it and any recommendations on brands would be really appreciated!

    :)

    You don't need a RTT.

Can't go wrong with a ground tent :D less bulky, more compact, easier to pack and move. :anonymous: and....... it's way cheaper.

    Sorry, no feedback on RTT.

    4 run, 2 don't
Between sleeping in a vehicle, sleeping in an RTT, and sleeping in a ground tent, I'd choose the tent (done all 3).

Only time I camp is when deer hunting and anything other than a ground tent wouldn't work for me.
    Ureka has the highest headroom.

Now if you're always traveling and need a quick set up to spend a night then move on Scotty's set up looks pretty cool. Be great for cruising around Smokey Mtns. and fly fishing creeks etc.

RTT are very trendy now, almost a fashion accessory really. Personally, I'm not a fan because they are so high, the vehicle must be perfectly flat or the tent feels way off balance. I'd have to set it up, drag my gear up and down. Also not excited about getting down a ladder at night when nature calls.

I disperse camp a lot (20+ nights a year), usually in very remote locations. I have a camper shell that works great for myself and my dog. Not as in vogue I know, but I love it. I use a really nice thick pad, pillows and a double sleeping bag and I sleep better in that truck than I do at home.

The tent can be unbukled quickly, set on the ground free standing while you go wheeling or what ever. You do have to remove any heavy items in the tent but even then it's less than 5 minutes. You could leave it up if your only going a short distance and not going over 20 mph. I doubt I'll ever do that but if you wanted to relocate at low speeds you could.

Thank you all for the feedback!

This is like the one I wanted to get. I am not a experienced camper by an means and I usually sleep in my hammock the couple times Iv camped or made a bed with cushions in the back of my truck to star gaze. Thanks for sharing!

I have always wanted to get a camper shell for my truck for this reason but just haven’t found one yet. Looks like the RTT are a little overrated like I thought they might be. I’m very simple and don’t need anything fancy. I just didn’t know if they were worth the hype or not.

There are pros and cons to them. Not for everyone. I’ve recently sold mine just for the weight savings. I never rolled it but sure did feel like I was close with 165lbs up top… now I’m rocking this setup and I love it!

I have a RTT but only will use it when I'm camping with another person or with the misses. It gives her false confidence that the creepy crawly won't get up there.

If I'm by myself, I sleep in the passenger seat.
