i have been sipping La Gritona. very smooth. very much made the old school way. it is a reposado, and at first glance, it looks like a silver. no fake coloing here.

    it is delicious.

For some reason Casamigos really agrees with me. Like it GETS me. To me its smooth, I can take more than a couplr shots and actually not get wasted and its never given me a hangover

Friend of mine went to Mexico recently, did a WHOLE day of tequila tasting. She said they hit up like 10 different spots. Jealous. Hoping she brought back a little mezcal:fingerscrossed:

Casamigos you say???? I call this the Vieja Formada - or a tequila based old fashioned. This Casamigos tequila is amazing!

I think I’ve seen Fortaleza in New Mexico. I’ll check next time I’m in the store.

Not the most readily available bottle I have found out - but, with a little digging, I found this! Excited to give this one a try.

It’s not much, but it’s a start. I don’t think this collection will ever grow to the collection of bourbon I have, but these three are really good. The Fortaleza is nowhere near as sweet as the other two, but I really enjoy the profile.

For me drinking has always been a festive, social event. Naturally I developed an appreciation for Tequila through the gateway drink of Margaritas. But as I aged and beer no longer set well with me (I hate belching mid sentence and farting all the time) and the sugary drinks like Margaritas no longer mixed well with efforts to stay healthy, turned to straight alcohol for my social lubricant - mostly just whisky or tequila on the rocks. And of the two, I lean towards tequila far more.

For the most part, Total Wine an More or Specs keeps me stocked but occasionally I have to make a trip to San Diego to the Old Town Liquor Store or Park Plaza Liquor Deli in Prescott AZ for a special bottle that I can't find elsewhere.

The Gold Standard for me that I judge Tequila by is Fortaleza Reposado.
The regulars in my rotation are Don Diego Santa, El Tesoro, Don Abraham Organic, Pasote, and if I'm slumming it - Herradura. For the most part I like Reposados because they are a great blend of the vegital tequila flavor but a nice balance of smoothness and the oak. I have had a few nips out of different bottles of Tears of Llorona and don't care for it - too much like Scotch for my pallet. But one time I had a glass of El Tesoro 75th Anniversary and it made me cry just a little it was so good. Best thing I have ever had. Amazing.

I’ve had this a few times now and i really like it! I need to get through a few of the bottles I have shown above before I buy a bottle of this though :)

I'll admit, Classe Azul is good tasting juice. And you should ALWAYS drink what you like - even if it's Jose Cuervo Gold. Never let anyone else sway your palette. We only get so many laps on this merry-go-round and you never know which one is your victory-lap. Make the most of them drinking what you like.

I've started shying away from Classe Azul. They are no longer making Teq that is additive free and have cheapened their production methods (while increasing their price). I also noticed at the same time, an increase in marketing through their Instagram and other accounts, promoting how special and unique their bottles are and how they are hand crafted. They even have value empty on the collectors market. It is an impressive tequila to drag out in front of guests - I'll give you that. I just wished they would go back to making it as good as it used to be.

I've noticed a trend over the years that some of them have become more about how cool the bottle is and less about what's in it. If it meant better tequila I would be fine if it came in a recycled Jarritos soda bottle. :)

I agree. I'm working on my last bottles of Classe Azul and DJ 1942. Trying more additive free offerings such as Ocho, Fortaleza, El Tesoro, Tapatio etc.
