    Stock so far!
Hi all, first time Taco owner (2018 Off Road w/stick) and having fun making it my own. I am contemplating cold air box and cat back exhaust with eventual Orange Virus tuning.

What is your favorite cat back exhaust? And please comment on “drone” which I would like to avoid

Stock and stock for the airbox and catback exhaust.

I have the gibson Black elite stainless and really like it! Nice and mellow and sounds mean when you really get into the gas. Very quite at cruising speed. Was on sale at New Level motorsports for $370 when I got it

I love my borla s-type. Nice mellow growl and no drone on the highway. I installed it over a year ago and still love listening to it.

I have the S&B Filters CAI. It provides better sound than a catback, imo. It doesn't have the resonator like the stock box does. The S&B does drone a little at certain engine speeds. If you're looking for performance gains, these won't get you that.

The most I'd probably do is the TRD exhaust. It changes the sound a bit, but not a ton. But the main benefit is that it eliminates the seam in the side of the muffler that will eventually fail and start spraying those hot gasses directly onto your frame rail. It seems like Toyota has enough frame rust issues without that.

Too much to name for this little space
I have heard of great reviews for the K&N CAI 63 for $250 and the Flowmaster 40 Flow FX for $500. I haven't picked them up myself but planned on it when it gets warmer

A few replies for keeping stock...not worth the cost?

I figured easing air in and out would work well with the OV tune

My buddy has the trd exhaust and it sounds great, nice mellow growl and no drone at cruising speeds. Its a hair quieter than my s type.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Stick with the TRD Performance Exhaust. Sound great, no real highway drone, and durable.
Got it on my '06 TRD OR when I bought new - it's still there and working fine.
Got it on my '21 TRD OR and I expect the same. Sounds fine.
Don't expect any real performance gain from the exhaust.
Can't comment on the air box but I'm sure there are enough others who will.

Not necessarily worth the hassle. The main benefit is the sound. Even the TRD Pro with the cold air intake and exhaust combo sees maybe 5 HP gain. Then you have to consider how much done you want to live with. Some exhausts (MBRP comes to mind) sound great at first, but get old on the highway.

Your stock airbox is same size as 5.7 tundra, also it is a cold air intake just like most vehicles come stock.

A "performance" intake will give you slightly better throttle response and a way better sound, thats about it. Maybe a few HP at WOT. You can get HPS 57-1600 tube and add air flow accelerator, pretty much same thing as adding a "performance" intake. I did that and it sounds great, plus provided a bit better throttle response.

Catback exhaust wont do much except for noise, maayybe a few hp. If you want to add performance, get URD y pipe. It removes 2 rear cats and its better flowing.

OV tune will add good power to your taco, best mod of them all.

    Good luck!

I suppose it just depends on your tastes. Some people like that. Some find it very annoying.
