Fast Charging Power Bank via DC/DC Converter

Hi everyone. I've been lurking for a while building my Taco out, just soaking up all the information. I've searched using a few keywords on this topic and haven't found a thread on this topic or anything quite close.

I have an Anker Solix CX1000 power bank, and have been searching for ways to send 400w to the power bank to allow for fast charging while on trips. Basing off this excellent video from Tinkerers Adventures, I have been planning on using the DC/DC converter he recommends, in addition to the circuit breaker and the XT60i cable. However, I haven't found anyone with a Tacoma who has used a setup like this, and I have a few remaining questions before I launch into putting this in my Taco, and hopefully can confirm it'll actually function as I'm expected.

Some of my questions are..
1. Will this actually work in a Tacoma? E.g. are there any issues with running this straight from the battery, circuit breaker and Victron Orion 20a DC/DC converter in the cab? Then connect the XT60i cable to the converter and run it to the power bank?
2. Basic stuff, size of wire needed (I'm thinking 6 or 8 awg?), should I consider an inline fuse, etc?
3. Routing - I was thinking of routing this through the passenger/driver side firewall and under the floor trim to the back seat. Better to run it some other way?

Curious to hear what ya'll think, and I hope to put together a thorough walkthrough for getting this setup for yourself. I think the combo of a fast charging relatively high-capacity power bank and an electric camp setup is a really cool idea, and provided it can be done well/right on the Tacoma, it's a great fit for my overlanding/camping trips.

 

I got a setup like this. I think.

So my brake controller connects to the 12v on the dash.
I needed another 12 connection to power ( keep charged ) my Jackery while driving and when not driving
the Jackery powers my Dometic.

Local shop dude I know ran an ignition-on 12-v setup that lives under the cubby in the back, snakes along and through
the firewall to the battery.

The setup works like a champ. We can park a few days and camp and the Jackery keeps everything quite cold and when
it needs a recharge we just go for a little drive, and worst case scenario is hook up the solar panels to recharge it.






I run a Goal Zero 400 inside the camper for my CPAP ( 12V ) and lights, and we use another similar size
for outdoor lighting, phone charging, etc. Any one of which can be recharged via the solar panels. Push come
to shove as long as I have clean water I reckon I could get survive for weeks with this setup.

 

I was considering doing the Bluetti DC to DC charger. I've seen good reviews and the Bluetooth function and app seems great. I have a small Bluetti power supply but I do like the Ecoflow units with the 30amp receptacle. Might come in handy with the RV or in the event of a power outage.

 

This is almost exactly what I'm looking for, nice setup! I'm really curious how long the Anker will last with convection cook stove, hot water kettle and a fridge hooked up, guess we'll just have to find out.

I've seen the Bluetti, from all the information I've found it looks like an excellent option as well. I was never able to figure out if it's compatible with the Anker, besides with the Victron and a circuit I was able to keep the cost down, under $200 for the DC/DC converter circuit and XT60i - add a few more bucks for cable connectors and braided sleeves.

 

We looked at Bluetti until we realized every function ( i think ) is controlled via some stupid-azz app that you have to install.
I don't need no stinkin Iphone Ap.... don't want no stinkin Iphone Ap.

We got the Anker ( smaller 200w I think ) to use in the Clam. We setup a folding table in there and do some cooking
in there and the Anker powers the lights and charges cell phones etc.

 

The app is only there if you want it. Fully functional without the app. I have an EB3A to power the fridge in the bed on long trips. Has pass thru charging do it'll power the fridge and charge at the same time. Great for long stops and will keep it going overnight as long as it's not 90° out. The app is great to monitor the charge and drain status when the unit is out of reach.

 

Ok that makes sense about the app. My Jackery powered my Dometic for 3 days and I was pretty happy with that. My Goal Zero (Yeti 400) will power the tear drop lights and my CPAP (12V) for 10 days. I think that's pretty bitchin.

I love this sh*t.... not having to deal with ice is worth the price of the Dometic, plus it doubles as an extra fridge-space to put stuff from the fridge
into it while my Turkey is in the fridge for a day or two, or to use as extra 'drink-space' when guests are around.

To boot, if we ever lose power, I can still run lamps and charge phones etc in the house.

Living in Arizona I'd love to go 100% Solar at the house, we got sunshine and then some.

 

Yes. We drive NY to Fla round trip 2X a year and have the freezer going. There's this meat/bbq place that we pass by and love down in GA and we load it up. I would like to get a big Ecoflow set up with the dc to dc charger but we only camp a few days a year in the tacoma and can't justify it. If I ever do sell my Class C I'd invest in it but I'll most likely get a full size pick up with a camper at that point too.
