    Hello All,

I am looking at getting bigger tires for my 4th Gen Taco. I am looking to get Falken Wildpeak A/T4W tires in a 285/70/17 size. The part I am struggling with is trying to figure out the different ply/ and load/ speed rating.

The different tire specs are as follows.

    285/70r17 - 116/113R - Ply Rating = C/6

    285/70r17 - 126/123S - Ply Rating = E/10

I am mostly looking to see what other people are currently running on their Rigs and some pictures of the fitment

    -Thank you

Go 6 ply imho. They’re still tough as hell and wayyyyy lighter. Better ride, better mileage, less power wasted accelerating them.

I have them in that size, go with just a SL.....
    Thats what I did...
    E will ride like shit...
These trucks are light & they ride like shit with a stiff sidewall tire, not designed to utilize such a tire...

I have those tires in the same size but SL. Go with SL, lighter than C and E.

same here, and even those kill MPG a bit. unless you're doing serious offroading, SL is plenty sufficient.

oops mine are 270/70R18 so an inch less diameter. here's a couple pics anyway:

All stock except wildpeaks in 285/70r17. I got C load. these are A/T 3Ws though. No issues so far.

i know i'm in the minority, but i prefer the stock TRD wheels (sport or OR, love them both). plus they're already paid for!

i stopped counting MPG months ago anyway

Just chiming in to say I got AT4/Ws w/ the E rating installed a couple weeks ago and they seem to ride just fine. I haven't noticed any sound, vibration or ride quality issues. Another point to add was my tire shop got both 265s and 285s to try out, as I wanted 285s if they would fit, but the front driver's side tire barely rubbed the frame at full right turn. It may have been possible to "fix" it through alignment adjustments, but I didn't want to mess w/ that, so I went with the 265s. Pretty happy with them so far. I have an SR5 so the fitment issue for 285s may be limited to that trim. Not sure if the TRD OR or Sport have a slightly higher lift in the front than the SR5, but I seem to recall somebody saying that on here.

my understanding all sorts of guys are running 285 70 17 on various stock trucks without issues, even sr5's....
Some guys remove the crash plates....
I have a sport which has the lowest front ride of all the options, but lifted now...

I know lots of people are running them without issue, so I was surprised they rubbed on mine. The tech said that they didn't rub when stopped, but would start to rub slightly when he crept the truck forward. And this was rubbing on the frame, not the well, so removing the crash plate wasn't necessary. This is on stock rims BTW. As mentioned above, I probably could have had them adjust the alignment (castor?) to recenter them in the well a bit, but I didn't want to get into that complexity. I don't really need bigger tires for any purpose other than looks.

Not sure what happen to this guys video but he had one showing the install, must have got flamed really hard for plastic-dipping his wheels so he removed it...
If you read through his description he actually lists the tires he used...
Theres many others, this forum isnt very user friendly when it comes to narrowing searches specific to that, too much info out there...

Ha! I got my rims powder coated black. Hopefully that's acceptable to the purists.

SL's all day long with 285/65/18 for me. I want a wider contact path as my vehicle is mainly driven on pavements. I will say these goodyear's are history very shortly. I can feel the top layer of silica evaporating each mile, making traction in all conditions minimal. Im in the tire business and study these fitments and use cases every day. The Falken in SL (T rated) is a great choice for our platforms. You can go ply rated, but will suffer with adding rotational weight anywhere from 12-25lb per tire.

I’m currently debating wildpeaks or KO3s. I know for sure I’ll get the C load rating because anything higher is just going to be a harsher ride. I’ve got RRW RR2 wheels with 0 offset incoming and will wrap them with 285/70/17 rubber.

i can't speak to the KO3s but i hated my KO2s on my 2016 - infuriatingly bad traction when accelerating from a stop on wet or even damp roads. i've heard they improved it for the KO3s, but the falkens are so much better, i am okay with not finding out for myself.
