So 2006 factory rims the silver isw peeling off and leaving behind a quite ugly steel rims. Not looking to splurge for wheels right now. Should I plastidip or paint. I know neither is a perfect solution. Looking for the best option between cheap options. Looks like someone sprayed them before for what it's worth. Only uploading 3 since I'm lazy 4th is about the same. IMG_20180622_153432.jpg IMG_20180622_153415.jpg IMG_20180622_153355.jpg

Sorry to tell you... that does not look factory. The factory alloys are machine aluminum and they have a powder coat clear over them.

You've got a couple of options...

    1. leave it alone and say F it, its a truck ( Cheapest )
    2. Plasti Dip it... good from far, far from good but YMMV ( Still Cheap )
    3. Powder coat it... may end up costing more than the rims ( Kinda Expensive )
    4. Buy new OEM Rims ( Expensive/ Retarded )
    5. Buy new Aftermarket Rims ( Expensive Investment )

Plus in picture #1.... I see a sag in the paint which tells me someone was sleeping while painting or someone who doesn't know how to adjust their paint guns..

Thanks when I looked closer I saw that too. I just assumed they were factory. Guess I shouldn't have used that terminology. Yup I agree someone painted some rims. I appreciate the advice .

She's going for new shoes in a couple weeks. But yeah they have less meat than a supermodel on a diet.

There are companies that refinish old wheels. Have no idea about cost, but its cheaper than new.

Thanks. I am fairly sure refinishing for these wouldn't be worth the cost. Gonna check the marketplace and locally. Probably just gonna ignore em for now and worry about other projects.

Those wheels are worth nothing so doing anything with them is a waste of money, either live with them or replace them.

Sand them up and plastidip them.
Mine are oem but started peeling the clear coat. I just sanded them and plastidipped them.
Its been 3 winters +.....surprising how long plastidip lasts.
Not sure why so many hate on it .:notsure:

Look on your local Craigslist, people always sell their OEM wheels for cheap. I bought mine from another member on TW for $250 with tires!

Depending on your taste you can find some used alloys or even new steelies for a comparable price to buying oem rims. I got a killer deal on some Ultra Rogues at $20 a rim. You have to hunt for awhile. Or just say F it. My next purchase will be some steel “d window” style wheels. Not ugly, yet functional.

My craigslist must be the exception to the rule. Not much at all in the way of deals for Taco parts.

My wheels did the same thing. Road salt gets under the factory finish. I wire wheeled it to take the flaking off, the underlying aluminum oxide (white powder) and scuff up the remaining clear coat. Looks great from 5 feet.
