Different states have different laws. Here in OR you can't have fog lights on lifted vehicles because they blind oncoming drivers. But if you just ask them to leave them in, like I did, they will probably just leave them in for you.

I have the lift kit. I like it. No regrets.

Here is a megathread on the kit itself

My dealer quoted $3150 installed. Seems high.

Keep in mind @Captains1911 , that you can do it for "almost" half the cost if you just buy Bilstein 5100s. You even keep the stock coils up front.

    (4) shocks, (2) 1/2" blocks for the rear, and an alignment and your done. This basically the same as the TRD lift in a nutshell.

Minus the Pro grill you would get with the TRD kit.

Trd kit 5100s are red and have TRD branded on them, and the kit comes with a heritage grill and new TSS garnish as well. Also I believe the blocks are 1". I opted for kit from dealership because I didn't wanna shop around for a reputable shop. Less hassle but more expensive going with trd kit from dealership.

    It's a 1/2" block that gives you a 1" lift.

Yes, but what does that mean for the factory warranty? I’m not in favor of possibly voiding my warranty on a brand new truck.

Only thing warranted would be the shocks. Bilstein offers a lifetime warranty. Toyota's warranty is only up to 3 years.

I’ll have to read through that thread, I’m a total newbie with this stuff, which is why I thought the dealership installed option might make more sense. However, if it’s double or triple the price, maybe not so much. I guess I have some homework to do.

Nothing will void your entire warranty. Obviously they wouldn't warranty the aftermarket parts, and if you do a non-Toyota lift expect that the dealer could give you a hard time about any suspension related warranty claims that they will try and blame on the lift. This varies from dealer to dealer. Some are more mod friendly that others, but it's like any other mod you do. It's pay to play.

Someone at Toyota realized lots of trucks were getting lifts. They woke up and said we can do that and make more money per unit.

    How?

    Overcharge for parts.

    Hook customer with 'warranty' talk.

Roll the overpriced parts into finance package so it's only a few bucks a month more.

incorrect. In the rear the block height = lift amount.

Unless you want the grille, so what I did and grab just the shocks and then get an AAL and have a decent shop do it. Spent less than $1k and its perfect.

    Good luck!

    EXACTLY.

And what are the odds of actually getting Toyota to “warranty” suspension parts? Shocks, ball joints, and most suspension components are “wear and tear” parts that they don’t cover anyways. If something got damaged due to an improper install (which is pretty much dummy proof) it would be the only chance anyone would have at a “warranty”

I would love to see the actual parts list of what they include.
When I was at a Jeep dealer we installed a lot of Mopar lifts on the Wranglers. These kits came with all kinds of crap including straps to limit the travel of the front axle (four inch kits). They are pricey kits too, even their basic 2 inch kit.

Then you get the customer that brings in four shocks, four spring spacers and two rear brake hose bracket extensions and his lift accomplished the same thing at a fraction of the cost. I suppose there is peace of mind with factory engineered kits when your truck is new but the aftermarket support is so extensive there are cheaper options that are probably just as good for how 90% of us use our trucks.

The worst part I’ve seen is how all over the place the different dealerships have been on the installed price. If I found one local that was under $2k out the door I’d be tempted but some have been over $3k.

Anyone know if the 5100s ride is stiffer or softer than the stock TRD Sport ride?

on a side note, in my opinion, the 2/1 lift that the factory lift gives you looks sooooo good. It’s subtle but noticeable

I love mine. And I believe it rides stiffer than the sport suspension
