I'm looking to buy a new 2023 Tacoma Off Road double cab with the Premium Off-Road package which includes leather seats, moon roof, premium JBL system, etc. The problem that I'm running into is that all trucks with this package are coming with the factory tonneau cover which I don't want. I don't want the overpriced tri-fold cover which requires the factory to cut the side rail cap on the sides of the pickup bed. I'd much rather have a aftermarket rollup tonneau cover which gives me full use of the bed when it's completely rolled up. I could always buy a Tacoma with the factory tri-fold cover and try selling the cover but I'd need to replace the bed side rail caps as well.
Has anybody else had the same issue with the factory tonneau cover, the fact that they did not want or need it because of other plans for the pickup bed? I've been waiting 3 weeks now for my dealer to find one without the factory tonneau that's being built but no luck so far.

Yeah, same here. Toyota wanted about $900 for their tonneau. I just took delivery of my Taco on Weds and this is coming today: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PGTJXQJ?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

I have one of these on my 2012 GMC Sierra Crew Cab and the quality is pretty darned good for about $200. It looks good and it's been on the truck for two years now.

Are you willing to travel to get the truck you want? I went from WY to TX to avoid markups and accessory bloat when I bought my truck.

Mine came with a factory tonneau cover, and while I would have preferred it didn't so I could buy a Lomax or Bakflip, the OEM cover works perfectly well.

You should not be so quick to dismiss the OEM tonneau cover. It's a beast of a cover.

Have them take the cover off and replace the caps? Seems like they could put the cover on another truck.

I ordered my truck with the tacoma cover figuring it'd be less of a pita to get everything I wanted now, rather than do it all piecemeal later the way I did things in the past. I'm really glad I did. For the first time I had no issues, all has been working the way it should.

I may be incorrect but isn't the factory tonneau cover port installed? Can't that be deleted if done in time?

Some dealerships won't remove any options saying they "can't" because they want the extra accessory bloat. You can absolutely get the truck with only the options you want, but only if your dealership is willing to help out.

Thumbs up for OEM. No issues, but I do take the time to care for it with 303 and Meguires products.

The OEM cover is actually pretty nice. It's super sturdy, minimal water intrusion and comes off easily if you need the full bed length. Why not try it and see if you like it first. If you decide to get rid of it, just sell it and swap bed rails with the purchaser.

    Welcome to the Toyota way.

I paid way too much for Predator Steps that I immediately pulled off and sold for $200 on Craigslist.

I've utilized the factory tonneau for almost 7 years now. No complaints. No water intrusion. It does require upkeep, but so does every other portion of the truck.

Yea, but I do not want the tri-fold cover no matter how good it may work.

Oh, I did not know that. Silly me, I've been using roll-ups for nearly 20 years and never knew that they are garbage. All this time I've been liking them and I never knew. Silly me.

If that's what you want, then why did ask if anyone had issues with the OEM cover?

    Carry on!

I do hear you people that like the factory tonneau but I'm not sold. I do notice that the TRD Pro models are coming through without the factory tonneau covers or other dealer type accessories. Maybe I should spend the extra $3000 for the Pro and not get useless accessories.

My truck came with the factory cover which weighs a ton and is too heavy for me to be taking on and off all the time when I haul branches etc.

Just take the cover off when you get the truck and sell it or put it in your garage rafters like I did until you get rid of the truck and put it back on.
