I have a 1997 toyota tacoma LX with factory power everything but mirrors. Is it possible that you can add on power mirrors from the 4runners,t100s, or even the early tacomas with the sr5 chrome mirrors with the switch to the existing wiring setup. Do you have to swap out wire harnesses or is it just plug and play?

    Thanks

I don't see why you can't. See if the wiring is already in place. If not as long as you have a spot for a switch, and if a factory one even better you can do it. curious to see who has done it for 1st gens. If the mirror housing is a match for the pillar mount where it turns you can swap the mirrors easily then see if you have wiring or add it.

Currently adding 4runner shells, heated mirrors with turn signals and puddle lights to my 2nd gen. The shells of the 4runner match up to the mount. motors and all swap from the tacoma.

Not sure I would have to take it apart and look. Im looking at t100 power mirrors to see if they will line up and work with the door pillars on my tacoma. Im curious to see if anyone has added power mirrors to a tacoma from the pre 2000s with the existing power window and lock setup. I know their is a blank space in the arm rest to add a power mirror switch.

Why are you so adamant on adding non-Tacoma mirrors? Just find a set of 2001-2004 Tacoma power mirrors and call it a day.

I honestly dont care what year power mirrors go on I just figured that the earlier style ones most likely are plug and play because toyota always changed things up every few years for the first gens. I have no idea if the 01-04 mirrors will work and plug into the 1997 harness.
Thats why I am asking if anyone has done this mod so I can get some information on what to do.

I would start first looking if the harness has the provisions for it. I highly doubt it does, I’ve pulled maybe 8-10 door harnesses myself for junkyard trucks and trucks that came equipped without the mirrors never had the plugs for it.

Simple to make your own harness for it though. Matter of six wires: Up, Down, Left, Right, Power, Ground.

Hate to thread jack here, anyone know if any first gen Tacoma or compatible 4 runner models that would have come with heated mirrors? Not as interested in power mirrors, but I suspect that they would be a package deal. Or if they just offered heated mirrors....

3rd Gen 4Runner Limited has heated mirrors. I’ve got a set.

Yes the 4Runner mirrors do bolt up there is just one alignment stud at the top you have to remove and if I remember correctly the 4Runner uses studs so u would have to get the 10mm nuts with it. I have a set on my truck from the hi-lux surf so they are power mirrors with folding feature

I’d like to revive this old thread and get some details on the switch and wiring specifics.

a new pair of 3rd gen 4Runner power mirrors is about $75 on eBay and the 4Runner switch is about $25 but the connectors and wire connections would need to be outlined.

    thanks.
