Looking to buy a supposedly factory 4.30 rear axle with an e-locker. Did Toyota have e-lockers matched with 4.30 gears or only the V6 models which I think the gearing is different?

I’ve got a 95 2.7 manual 4WD and looking at the door sticker it comes out to 4.30. Thanks!

3rd Gen 4Runner, Limited Auto V6 with rear locker had 4.30's. I'm not sure what other combination had that gear ratio with a locker.

Unfortunately, a 4R rear axle housing does not directly replace a Tacoma rear axle housing. However, the 3rd members are the same.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Though it is pretty simple to swap the 4Runner axle to leaf springs if you have the skills.

I thought all 1st gen Tacomas with e-lockers were 4.10s, the 4.3 was the e-locked 4-runner ratio like @Kwikvette said so you'd have to source a 4runner one if you wanted to stay 4.3

I might just be thinking of TRD locked rear ends. I know before TRD (pre 1998) you could order a 4wd with an e-locker, and maybe they did do them in the 4.3s then. If so that would probably be hard to find.

    A 1995?

Is this a 1995 Pickup or actually a 1995.5 Tacoma? It wouldn't be the first time this caused confusion...

I assume that since you have a pre-TRD you likely don't already have a locker, so you're wanting to install one.

    Couple things:
    1) as others said, obviously the axle housing from a 4Runner doesn't just bolt right up because of the coil spring perches, but...
    2) neither will the 3rd member, actually. The locker/non-locker housings are different, so a locker 3rd member doesn't just bolt right up to a non-locker housing. non-locker is 8.4" diff, locker is the 8". Same ring and pinion size, but not interchangeable without fabrication.
This is 2nd gen but same concept applies: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/8-vs-8-4-diff.325590/

Another option is to just get an e-locker axle housing from a Tacoma and re-gear it. Buying a used axle, you should be going through it and rebuilding it anyway, might as well toss in new gears while you're in there...

That said, here's my soapbox on TRD lockers: They're perfectly nice lockers, but there are far better options out there that don't require you to mess around with housing swaps or grinding on your stock housing, etc... I've always noticed that while my TRD locker is perfectly strong enough, it can be finicky to engage/disengage, something the aftermarket brands are better at. Harrop if you want to stick to e-lockers, or the tried and true ARB for air lockers. There are others, too.

Swapping a TRD locker/housing is definitely going to be cheaper (usually), but you're also swapping in used parts (that come with their own risks) and you're going through a lot of effort for what is, at best (IMO), a descent locker.

If I were to do it over again, I'd skip the TRD (and the premium price they command) and buy a lower model for cheaper and add aftermarket lockers. Literally the only thing left that still makes mine a "TRD" is the locker (and some stickers). I'd prefer a Harrop, but 1) I'm cheap, and 2) I certainly don't dislike the TRD locker enough to spend the money to replace it.

As I said, it's a good locker, but in the scheme of "buy once cry once" you might just consider aftermarket options...
