Bought the Extang Solid Folid 2.0 for my long bed OR. I've been getting a few questions about it so I figured I would create a separate thread. Also when I was researching tonneau covers, I wish I had a little more info and pictures. I really wanted a hard folding cover, was not at all a fan of the fabric ones.

First you take off the end clip to slide in the back bracket. You can do both of them from one end if you take the cleats out, otherwise you can take the front clip off and slide it in that way.
    image.jpg

This is the bracket. Two for each side.
    image.jpg

Screw the other half of the bracket in loosely so you can still move it. (Only the front bracket has to be lose).
    image.jpg
    image.jpg

The back one you can tighten right away because the way they designed it, you have to get it as far back as possible. It almost doesn't fit.
    image.jpg

You can see what I mean with this one. The clamp from the tonneau won't go on because it is too far back. I made sure it was square then I nudged it up just enough so it would clamp.
    image.jpg

You can then tighten the front clamps. Make sure they are at an angle like this or you won't be able to turn them. The directions say don't over tighten them as well, only two turns. Wiggle the clamps as you tighten them. You will find that they aren't really tight for a couple of turns.
    image.jpg

About how far up in the front it goes.
    image.jpg
    image.jpg

    Unfolded.
    image.jpg

You can see it just barely makes it far enough back. It wish it was a little longer but I didn't design it. I have had zero issues with water coming in from the rails yet though.
    image.jpg
    image.jpg

    The back clamps attached.
    image.jpg

So far I have to be honest. I have been getting a very small amount of moisture coming through the hinges. I am already in touch with Extang about the warranty. I will post pictures of my water test. The cover is not bad but the hinges so far are not totally waterproof, more extremely water resistant. With hours of rain there will be some drips. However I have boxes back there for an entire weekend of rainfall and none of them were soggy so it works well enough for me. I also plan on modifying the cover with some extra protection over the hinges. I will update with pictures as I go.

After a day of solid rain, these are pictures of the inside of my hinges hence my issue with the cover. Ignore the water in the bed since I installed this in the rain and had already been soaked.

The water comes in because the side rails and back bed are not connected. There is about a 1/4 inch gap that lets water in from the front and sides. You could glue the tonneau on and still get water inside.

If you look at the 8th pick down, you can see light coming in from this area, thus the water.

Yeah I think I know the area you are talking about. I plan on plugging that up. I did a water test this past weekend when it was totally sunny out and was still getting some moisture through the hinges. I was considering some gaffing tape to deflect some water on the outside or getting a rubber like an inner tube to put on some how. Possibly eve plastidip but didn't know if it would ruin the hinges.

Nice write-up OP. I installed mine last week on a six foot bed (access cab). Seems to fit great after obsessing over it for a while. I blasted it pretty thoroughly at the car wash and had only minimal water coming in. I didn't bother using the clamps for the rear of the bed. Do you see any potential issues with not using the rear clamps?

I put them on since that is what came in the box haha. I have also heard horror stories about tonneaus being ripped off, usually in the opposite direction though. I also put them on the keep the back end locked because I kept a brand new black friday tv purchase back there for a day. I also don't think it seals quite as well with out the clamps and with being so easy to install I just put them on. If yours don't quite fit on the brackets, you can always remove those end pieces and move the bracket down a little more. I am just anal and didn't want to do that.

I just left the end clip off so I could move the rear clamp into the correct location.

Also, when I emailed the Xtang rep he suggested using the bottom hole of the bracket so the clamps don't tighten too much and pull down too hard on the cover. This will cause the cover to buckle slightly and allow even more water in.

It's a trial an error process but I've found a pretty good spot and don't get much water at all. I have a bed mat and the top of that stays pretty much dry, and we got a serious rain last night!

I tried the bottom holes first and the cover was lose. To the point that when it was all closed with the tailgate locked, I could get my fingers under and pull up on the cover an inch or more. I immediately took the bracket off and put it back haha. This post happens to be the second time I installed it because I thought it would be going back.

I installed the Extang bracket in the front of the bed just far enough forward to get the cover gasket completely seated on the top of the bed behind the cab window. Initially I had some overhang and wound up positioning the cover where the OP shows in his photo. I initially used their brackets by the tailgate but then tried it without them. IMHO, the spring loaded arms grab onto the OEM rail just fine.

That's fantastic! I'm on their site and still staring down full price - they're not taking the posted discount. How'd you do it? Who do I have to schmooze?

    It's a TacomaWorld miracle!

Received mine today, but it didn't come with any brackets. Guess I'll email extang and see about getting some sent out. Damn it.

Yeah when I got mine, it was clearly an after thought thrown into the box. Someone packed that last thing on a Friday at closing time haha.

Just ordered mine from Amazon $715.70 shipped. I also applied for Amazon card at checkout. It takes literally 30 seconds to apply. 40 bucks off instant and 12 months financing 3.25 for expedited shipping. Not a bad deal $678.95
