Anyone know where I might find a exploded diagram of the front diff? Shop says I have a bad needle valve which has put some very small flakes of metal in the diff oil and are asking $800 to fix. This is at 85k so I would expect a little bit of wear.

I'm 1) trying to understand if the needle valve is for venting or locking the diff and get a sense of whether or not this is problem I should wrench myself.

    thx

Needle valve or needle bearing? There is a needle bearing where the drivers side cv axle goes into the diff. Wiggle the cv where it entere the diff. Mine has almost 1/4" of play. I'll be replacing that with the ECGS bushing.
It looks like it's 41331G in the pic above.
    Good luck

Hey, thanks for that. Useful for getting at least an idea.

Indeed. It's a needle bearing and not a needle valve. Just had a lot going on that day and misheard what the tech said. Interesting that you have that much play. I'll have to check mine to compare. I'm about to do back-to-back x-country drives so I'm feeling inclined to just go ahead and clean things up up front.

I didn't measure it, but it was way more than i expected and the passenger side doesn't move.

Sounds pretty steep for a dealer, looks like they are probably tacking 120+ for a drain and fill on the front diff not sure what else they may be adding

It's fairly common to have that much play in the driver's side axle, at least from what I've read here on TW. Mine has since I bought it with 18,000 miles. I don't wheel and only use 4WD occasionally, but at 140,000 miles now and no issues so far.

I am at this point also with Gen 2 @125k miles. Mine is the passenger side which can't be replaced with an ECGS bushing. I simply can't get the of the CV shaft out from the diff ext tube(highlighted) part 41320. I am now removing part 41320 from the diff. to see if I can just replace that whole axle assembly.

Hey did you ever finish this job? Far as I know, the ecgs bushing CAN be used on the passenger side as well. Thought I read that they themselves posted that somewhere.

Johnathan, where did you grab this pic? I'm regearing and it looks like I messed up a thrust washer or something that is not in the install kit from nitro gear. Should've been more careful...

It's a screenshot from our electronic parts catalog that I use at the dealer I work for.

the ADD tube bearing is completely different design than the driver side. There are no needles.

Totally, and this may have been a fever dream, but someone on here installed it on their passenger side and I believe ecgs said that's fine but won't help

Does anyone know which side of the cross member part 41653C on the rear mounting point sits? Is it above or below?
My mount sucked through the hole and diff rolled forward
when i took it apart part 41653C had been installed above the crossmember
this could be correct but it doesn't make sense to me as the hole in cross member is practically the same size as head on part 41655

    Thanks
