Does anyone have any experience with the Mountain Hatch Solo Swag tent or anything similar? looking to do some solo camping this summer and cant fathom spending so much on a RTT so I am looking for just a small one-person tent that light and compact.

Seems like an extra roomy bivy. You just camping by the truck or would you use the tent for other types of trips too?

To start just going to do a few overnight trips at campgrounds and whatnot, but I don't do hiking or anything of the like so it would be only tenting by the truck. I have an awning too i would plan to put it under for added weather protection.

I backpack camp so it’s obviously different but if weight isn’t a huge issue I’d go with something a little bigger than what you provided so you can fit more in the tent with you. Maybe a two or three person. Just my 2 cents

Check out Kodiak canvas if you are going for a swag. I also have a onetigris backwoods bungalow. It's a sweet, simple, compact 1+ man tent with a vestibule.

The only reason I don't want a large more common tent is there a pain to set up and I'll be alone 99% of the trips. I usually go out with other people but they all have rtt for camping. I appreciate the suggestions, just want the coverage of a tent but the size of a sleeping bag ya know

The kodiak canvas seems to be the same as mountain hatch (i know it's the style) just never used a "swag" tent and new to that term in general, so not really sure what out there is great and what's sucks.

Kodiak is a reputable canvas tent company. I own their 10x10 flex bow and I love it. They come with a lifetime warranty. I don't see anything about dimensions or warranty on MHs website, which is odd. For about the same price you could also get a Kodiak one man flex bow if you are looking for a simple and compact setup.

E: just realized mh gives dimensions in feet.

Wow. It's literally cheaper to buy from the OG's Crashpad, get it shipped from Australia, and get a better product than it is it buy it from Mountain Hatch. That's fuckin funny.

Swags are awesome though. I highly recommend them.

I've gotten a lot of use out of my REI quarter dome tent for solo trips. I have several small backpacking tents, but if I was looking for another solo tent, the Durston X-mid would be at the top of the list.

I like small tents to be small, but I'm also a backpacker.

Pretty cool design, but it is bulky as hell for something that fits one person with some room for gear at their feet or head. That duffel that it packs into takes up as much space as my 3-man REI tent, ground cloth, sleeping pad, pillow, and sleeping bag combined.

edit: Or maybe it's just that that Gladiator bed storage system in the marketing shot makes it look like it's huge? The Crashpad one that @lambo mentioned lists the rolled up specs, and, while it's still big, it doesn't seem *that* big.

It's certainly not small. The thing I like about it is the setup/take down time. Given that the mattress and sleeping bag along with the swag can be rolled up and stored together makes the setup/take down time that much quicker.

That packed down size is wild. I get the convenience though.

Yepp, not meant for everyone. But there's a good reason Aussie's have been using this stuff to cross the outback for decades.

Aussies get all the cool tents. I had an Oztent for a minute. Loved it as well but the packed size was just too much for my short bed. 20191103_103958.jpg
