I'm Iooking at buying a used RTT. I've seen a couple, but the prices seem to be a bit high for used. What's the the expected Resale for these things in your experience? 50% reduction?

50%? Wow...lol. dont know if I'd buy something i was gonna lose half my purchase price on. I've seen "used", meaning purchased and never installed, and the owner is looking for about 100 less than what they spent. The market is pretty demanding right now. Good luck in your hunt

You also have to look at the brand. There are a lot of cheap ones, but you get what you pay for........I have had soft and hard shell models and found the hard shell to be the best (IMO). However, I no longer use one and don't see ever going back to one. Back to basics for me sleeping in the canopy or in a ground tent.

I agree it is a status thing driving around with an RTT mounted on their truck everywhere they go.......................then selling it when they figure out "oh shit my gas mileage sucks even worse than before"

I'd just wait until summer. If the retail shops, class 8 trucks and cars sales are the current barometer we'll be in a full blown recession by summer. The best shit goes on sale during a recession. If it's anything like 2008 ur going to wish that you kept the powder dry

Perhaps. The one I'm looking at stays on his SUV, so I do t think it gets used much. Just looks. Mine wouldnt stay on the truck.

Really kind of a pain in the ass...........depending on model, soft cover sucks putting on and off, not really a huge advantage on set up time or break down. I have an oz tent and I can pull that off the roof rack and have set up quickly also. My wife felt like it was sleeping in a coffin in the hard shell model, you can't really change comfortably and I was setting up and additional area to do that and then what is the point of the "quick RTT set up? I did have an "annex" separate room to connect for changing, additional room etc, but then there goes the "quick deployment and tear down.

Extra weight on truck , roof rack etc. Gas mileage is already not great add that and even worse plus wind drag, noise, etc. Also trails very top heavy and truck not as maneuverable as it once was.

Yes, you don't have to worry about the grounds, rocks, tree roots etc, however you would be hard pressed not to find a suitable area for a ground tent as well in the areas that you will camp. Not really a reason to spend $1500-$4000 (my hard shell I bought was $4000)..................for me at least.

Like I said I had 3 of them and they were cool at first and I enjoyed them. However out grew them. There are plenty of people that swear by them and use them a ton, just not for me or my needs............

I bought my 23 Zero RTT very slightly used for exactly half of retail. But I think my situation was a rarity. Older gentleman that, from what it seemed like, was well off. His wife didn’t like climbing the ladder. I have used the piss out of it over the past few years, and couldn’t be happier. I pull it and the rack off if I’m not camping. Not much into the Broverlander thing. So there are deals to be had if you aren’t in a rush to buy one.

From what I've seen around people are asking 80-90% retail,
One of the things here in Canada is shipping costs make buying new brutal.

I would think you would take some of the price off for mold and old farts but I guess the market is supporting it..

I scored mine for half off retail even though it was new because a RV repair shop bought it as part of buying out another shop and it was just taking up space in his shop.

If you not getting a 25% discount, I wouldn't bother. You can't wait for Black Friday sales which are about 15-20% and have the peace of mind when it comes to warranty.

These tents are the actual shizzle:

Waited my whole life for these to be invented. Live up to every claim, and quality is exceptional. Went to the Arctic and back camping out of one and was the best decision I made. I have the T3 size that fits lengthwise in the Tacoma short bed when packed up.

I don’t understand the rooftop tent thing at all. I guess if I were camping in Africa and didn’t want to get trampled by a rhino or something, but otherwise it just seems much more difficult and a bigger use of space and cargo capacity compared to a ground tent or hammock system.

I get it to a point, but driving around with what looks like a mattress strapped to the back looks a little silly, but how else are you going to signal that you're the outdoorsy type. The typical TW Bro isn't rich enough to have his Tacoma as a dedicated over-landing rig

Seem a few tapui and Yakima used in the 50 even 60% less then Msrp range. $600-700 ish. Even sold one for $600 and it didn’t fly out the door. Currently trying to sell and brand new skyrise HD still under warranty for $1500 (nearly $1000 below retail and zero interest after 2 weeks).
