my experience with the URD mk2 Y pipe with rear cat delete:
    awful sound and drone
    loose throttle response
flowed much better but the front cats were a limiting factor

    what i did:
removed stock front cats and replaced with OV high flow cat dump tubes
replaced all tubing from the Y's merge back with 2.25"
added two Vibrant UQ resonators in series, both 2.25" in/out
mated to a Spintech muffler with reduced in/out to 2.25"
the whole system is media-less and open flow aside from the high flow cats' media

changing out the front cats got rid of the last bit of buzzy ricer sound. replacing all 3.0" tubes with 2.25" improved throttle response, power, and eliminated that resonant metallic exhaust sound that's been around since the beginning. adding the Vibrants totally handled the drone but it required two in series for me. power is way up and throttle response is better than ever after redoing this more than 5 times.

took more than i expected but i don't F around with exhaust... it's gotta be right.

oh, and no CEL, it's disabled in my tune. for Texas inspection my front cats show as ready in OBD so no problems.

I recvd the ypipes before the exhaust, so I threw on the pipes and that was a mistake. Very metallic raspy sounding and I feel like I lost some power. however, I had no CEL, and install was easy, so there's that.

About 2wks later I recvd the borla s type, and all of a sudden it was night and day in terms of sound and performance. Still no CEL after a couple months of running them. No drone from the Borla (sounds like a Borla to me from prior vehicles I've had).

The only thing I notice is when I'm merging onto the highway with windows down I can hear a faint raspy-ness to it (mostly coming from the ypipes). Once I'm out of first gear, I no longer hear it.

When the truck idles there's no sound indication the ypipes are on. It's only apparent when I'm accelerating for a second or two if that makes sense.

    ***Update***
Problem: Wasn’t happy with the volume of the exhaust. The tone is great, low and burbly

Solution: Made a few changes and it was a night and day difference…but I lost that aggressive low and burbly tone. It’s very quiet now.

I ended up installing a vibrant ultra quiet resonator in the stock muffler location. I recently had some shackle hangers installed and a cross bar in place of the spare tire. I had them tuck the borla 14” muffler in the spare tire location and had them dump the exhaust at the bumper.

Results: I would say if the stock exhaust was a 3 sound wise on the 10 scale. After replacing the stock muffler with the borla 14” muffler it went up to an 8. Very loud and aggressive with a low burbly tone. When we swapped out the borla 14” muffler for the resonator and moved the borla 14” to the spare tire location and did the dump below the bumper the volume went back down to a 5. However at WOT now it sounds more like a sports car with a turbo. Kind of a sporty rasp but very refined not as loud and obnoxious as the borla by itself. It’s hard to explain.

I’ll try to get a video to post but if definitely doesn’t sound like a v6 taco anymore. It sounds more like a car.

Really the only thing I would consider would be the TRD. I just traded my 4Runner recently for this Tacoma. I put an AFE intake and Borla "touring' cat-back on it. I kinda caved in the stock muffler on a rock. As soon as I started it the first time with the Borla I knew I wasn't going to like it. Around town it was fine. But holy hell 80 on the interstate was maddening. But I'm also in my late 40's. I LOVE a nice V8 with headers and real exhaust. I have longtubes, an X-pipe, and Flowmaster 40 cat-back for my Mustang. But a 3.5 or even a 4.0 V6 is NOT a V8.

    3.5 or 4.0 is not a v8? What?!

I'm a tester for Yotawerx, and I'm currently running his Active Duty NA tune for MT, 04B14, v3.0.8 with modified ACIS, been testing the limits for a while and keep coming back to this one. so so good.
