I have found a few discussions regarding the relocation of the V6 exhaust crossover pipe so that it doesn't hang so low under the transfer case, but rather than having an exhaust shop do a custom job I was hoping for a bolt on solution. I see that URD offers performance y-pipes that would work, but they eliminate the rear catalytic converters and I can't get away with that where I live. Are there any aftermarket options that retain the cats?

I'm going to add a set of BudBuilt skids under there too, so I also want to make sure they will fit with whatever the new pipe ends up being Any thoughts on fitment issues?

Looks good, but I'm looking for a bolt on solution.

Any particluar reason you are looking for bolt on? Most shops can relocate for fairly cheap.

How would a bolt on solution work if the cats are bolted to the cross around pipe at the headers lol. Just get a shop to bend and weld you a pipe.

Easy reversability and not having to worry about finding a good shop. I have had nothing but bad luck outsourcing work on my vehicles and I don't weld. I would rather not have anyone else mess with my truck if it can be avoided. For every win posted on this site - like the one above - there is a hack job done to somebody.

Just basing this on my personal experiences, not what I've heard. If no bolt on options exist, fine...I'll just put the BudBuilts on and be done with it. I'm a grown man and don't need lectured about how the world works. I was simply trying to determine if what I wanted was available. Cost is not my main concern.

Well, I guess it's not possible to get a simple yes/no answer here without everyone telling you what to do or being childish. I'll get my info elsewhere.

Thanks DoorDing. I appreciate the pictures and advice...as well as the civility. I haven't been able to find any bolt-on options that retain the cats anywhere, including TacomaWorld, so I'm beginning to think that I have no choice but to find a shop for a custom bypass. I was very interested to hear that the BudBuilts have a clearance problem, and I'm glad I found that out before mounting them without moving the exhaust.

Brianrride - does your custom pipe vibrate off of the heat shield at all? I like how your cross over would still be protected by the skids.

    Again, thanks.

I had mine done at the local shop with good results. I hope it goes well for you too. My local shop's slogan: "No Muff Too Tuff". Amen brother.

The heat issue is a valid concern. I was worried about that too, plus the possibility of contact/vibrations between the custom pipe and the existing heat shield. I'm currently thinking about doing what Brianrride did, but removing the factory heat shield and instead covering the entire length of the crossover with heat wrap. I'll need to talk to Bud, as his site doesn't list a relocated crossover pipe configuration as an option for his skids.

since doing this i have taken the heat shield from underneath the tranny (where the pipe use to cross) and mounted it on the side were the new pipe comes kinda close to the tranny.

    Sorry...not on here a ton.

We go off roading a lot and I heard it rattle once or twice on very steep hill climbs. I am thinking the additional torque required of the engine, twisted the motor mounts a little extra.

I am with you on other people working on my truck, I hate it and do not have luck. However, what I hated even worse was that exhaust pipe being the lowest thing under my truck, just asking to get smashed or torn off.

    Good luck!!!

Losing the "cats" in the Y-pipe will still let the vehicle pass emissions. Without O2 simulators or anything else. There are no sensors to monitor what comes out of those. And again, a vehicle with a bolt on aftermarket y-pipe will pass emissions from a testing standpoint. Possibly not from a visual but that'd be one super strict shop, and the primary cats would still be there.

Regardless of that, you are after what you are after. If you have a shop do the exhaust work, you have a lot of options. You could even go as far as to have new cats installed.

As politely as I can, and with no offense meant to you Doording, PaulK, have the shop fab the exhaust where the two sides have a nice merge in the same direction. As in the merge collector seen on the stock setup and Connormc11's picture and not Doording's. Which works against efficient laminar flow and the scavanging properties created by a directional flow merge collector. Basically, exhaust merges should not "T".

Also keep in mind that the URD 4x4 Y-Pipe will not fit properly with a drop bracket lift which has the arms which extend from the drop bracket to the OEM crossmember. For anyone who is curious.
