    Four questions:
    1. Anyone know which fuse goes to the EVAP Leak Detection Pump Module?
    2. Does anyone have diagram/picture for where I can find my EVAP Leak Detection Pump Module?
      • I didn't expect it to be hard to google this, but for some reason I can't find anything... probably user error
      • I climbed under but couldn't see where it was or anything that looked even remotely like the picture I have of the part.
      • I am a complete noob, so just close up picture/diagram probably won't help. I need to know where I should climb under and what other parts/systems it is going to be around.
    3. If this module has failed (not due to being damaged by any external forces) should it be covered under a warranty if I only have a 2017 with only 29K miles?
    4. If the module is not covered under warranty, is a complete noob able to replace this module with just some wrenches?
      • I've never even done an oil change, but that's not because I don't think I could do it, just never wanted to. For some reason I think this might be fun/satisfying to do myself. If it is easy to do, or difficult but not complex and I'm not likely to mess anything else up, I'd like to do it myself.
Thank you for your reading my post and any advice you might have!

Unfortunately I did not find an answer to any of my questions in that thread or its attached pdf.

Here is a link to a web based service manual for the EVAP cannister. Maybe it will help.

    1. No.

    2. See previous post.

    3. It is possible that the part is covered under the Emissions Warranty. You could contact Toyota. My bet, Toyota finds some way to no warranty it.

    4. The first thing the manual says is, remove fuel tank. Since you have not even changed oil, I am guessing removing your fuel tank might be beyond your skill set, but at one point, I couldn't either. We all have to start somewhere. So this is up to your comfort level. ( I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner)

    Thanks Speedfreak!

Update -- I took it into Toyota:

They found the problem to be with the charcoal canister (not the evap leak detection module). Apparently, when filling gas, if an overflow occurs, gas can get into the charcoal canister and ruin it. I don't recall ever overfilling the gas tank, and I don't try to top-off the tank after the pump stops... so not sure how this would have happened... but just another reason to not top-off the tank.

At first, they tried to charge me $1,100 to get it repaired. I asked about it being covered under warranty since it is emissions system. Apparently, it is a 3 year, 36k warranty. Mine is a 2017 with 29k miles... so said they couldn't do it under warranty.

I told them that I would take it someplace else to get it repaired, then about 10 minutes later, I got a call from the dealer saying they were going to try to work something out with the corporate office to give me a discount on the part/labor.... about 30 minutes later, they called to tell me that they'd cover the whole repair under warranty "because I've been loyal to them" (getting all my maintenance done with them) ... so... YAY?

but not yay? meaning... if I don't continue to get overcharged on all my oil changes and other maintenance, then they will treat me differently next time when a part that should not have failed, fails?

I really don't like how that makes me feel as a Toyota customer... and it really makes me want to learn how to do repairs like this myself.

Great for Toyota covering the repair even though it was technically out of warranty, don't want to minimize that.

Thanks again everyone for the advice!

Good to know. Glad you have a resolve that works for you. I may have to climb under mine and replace the charcoal canister in the spring, mine coded out again yesterday. I have to learn not to overfill, too used to older vehicles with way less emissions.

I checked the Emissions warranty, it isn't covered. This is from the Canadian Warranty Supplement. It only covers 4 components.

    SPECIFIED MAJOR EMISSION CONTROL COMPONENTS
96 MONTHS OR 130,000 KILOMETRES (KM), WHICHEVER
    OCCURS FIRST.
The following major Emission Control Components listed and
supplied by Toyota Canada are covered for defective material or
    workmanship.
    - Engine Control Module
    - Catalytic Converter and Protector
    - Data Link Connector
    - Bulbs for Malfunctioning Indicator Lamp (Check Engine Warning Light)

In case any future forum users are searching this topic...

Here is the warranty guide for 2017 Tacoma. Emissions starts on page 17.

    Charcoal canister is 2/24.
    Major components are 8/80.

Over-filling or topping-off the tank and harming the Charcoal Canister isn't a new issue, especially on Toyota's. A few years ago I had to have the Charcoal Canister replaced in a 20 Y/O Camry I used to work-on for a friend who had a habit of topping-off to the nearest $

    One last update here --

Just got my truck back from the dealer and they had me sign some paperwork so they could get reimbursed by corporate for the repair.

What they are getting reimbursed for from corporate:
    $459.11 part cost
    $92.81 labor cost
    $551.92 total (their internal cost?)
    Didn't see anything about taxes

They were going to charge me:
    $1,051.84 repair cost
    $49.99 "shop supplies"
    $52.37 part tax
    $1,154.20 Total

What they tried to charge me minus the tax:
    $1,101.83
2x what they are getting reimbursed from corporate
    $1,103.84

So they had a 100% (minus $2.01) sales markup on their internal cost. Maybe there is more to it than this, but wanted to provide these details for anyone trying to negotiate repair costs.
