I want to start a conversation on electrifying a Tacoma. We know it’s possible with enough will power and money but nobody wants to figure this on their own and spend a fortune so it’d be nice to have a depository of knowledge.

My initial thought was ‘just swap a Prius powertrain’.
Has anyone put in any real time toward this? There’s so much information online now, so many projects.

The basics, there are three main components: the motor, batteries and a motor controller inverter, with the controller inverter being the most difficult item in the project.

This guy is converting on a budget with Prius components and OpenInverter.

Swap in a Prius power train will produce an end result that is a Prius that looks like a Tacoma.

Save yourself some headache. Buy a Prius, remove the body, bolt on the Tacoma body.......done.

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
a lexus LS600H power train would be the easier one to swap in... since its setup longitudinally..

Research if there is an advanced HS STEM program in your area.

Some build solar race cars, underwater robotics, and I know at least one building an EV conversion or two.

Just like the Prius, the Lexus GS450h has open source info. Same hybrid transmission as the LS600h, which is mentioned above, but the GS450h has the 2GR V6.

I'd love to turn my 80 Series land cruiser into an EV. To save costs though it would be cost saving to replace the engine and trans instead of removing the axles. So far for the costs of my 80 conversion is $68,000 - $7x,000 a Tacoma could be slightly cheaper with the similar setup I would use. My costs are based on this guys Hummer conversion and links to the parts he used. For my needs and to keep my solid axles this setup seems to be the best. But that cost is darn close to a RIVIAN so for me I'd just buy the RIVIAN if I even had the $$$$

As far as I'm concerned EVs are exactly that.
