Has anyone run ethanol free gas? There's a place nearby that sells it and I was thinking of running a tank just to see if the mileage was different.

I'm not sure what they are charging for it, and I'd be shocked if the performance impact could override the additional cost, but I figured for the cost of one tank it might be interesting to get some real numbers.

I have used it myself I really can`t see that much real difference.

Then I never took the time to do a real honest test kinda hard when your truck has a 900 Pound welder in the bed.

It's been discussed to death. It made my truck run smoother and about 1 MPG improvement. I have it readily available near me but I can't justify spending what they want for it.

3-5% better mileage maybe but I doubt your gain as much as 12 HP.

Wasn't so much the extra power for me, it was how much smoother the motor ran.

So, sort of "meh". Thanks for the replies. I'll try it and expect that the biggest impact will be in the price of the fill-up.

Too much more expensive here. Results don't justify purchasing.

A gallon of pure ethanol only has 2/3 the energy content of a gallon of pure gasoline. A 10% blend, without doing the math, a 3-5% reduction in energy content sounds believable.

So pure gas *should* give 3-5% more energy per gallon compared to E10 with an associated 3-5% increase in mpg with identical loads and driving style. More energy per volume = more work per volume. Assuming a 150hp engine (theoretical) going to e10 would drop the amount of hp available to 142.5-144-75.

This turned out to be a non-starter for me. They wanted $4.29 a gallon for the ethanol free. I ain't paying that. Filled up at Costco.

I've seen ethanol-free gas at various places around the country usually for maybe 8-10% more $$ than the normal gas. I love the way the truck runs on it, and I get maybe 8-10% better mileage with it. If there was a station that sold it close to my house, I would use it all the time.

You can buy ethanol free fuel in Maine-- at the air port for $5.29 a gallon it's also 100 octane it will make your truck fly.

Only if it has wings and a prop. The refill guys get a good laugh at the weekend racers that come to the airport. But if you're after it it's 100LL ( 100 octane low lead) and it's dyed blue. It's also likely on it way out, kind of archaic fuel for the flying community.

General aviation piston aircraft. Pretty much every small aircraft. They will not fill my truck but they will fill a gas can. I don't but some guys I know run it in their chain saws seems like a lot of effort to fill a chain saw.
