What kind of fuel economy hit do you take when you go from factory OR stock to a full set of skids plus sliders?

Navagate and drive the thing by braile do ya? Well, that’s what you get for taking shortcuts through the parking lot. Those mall cops probably have wanted posters all over for you breaking up all their parking berms like that!

Thanks for the reply though, good reference pics!

Roughly adding 300lbs to the truck. Milages can vary usually 1 to 2 mpg and then you stick bigger tires on it and take a other 1 to 2 mpg hit.

For your case, I would honestly only get an IFS skid, the trans and transfer case sit a bit higher and are unlikely to be hit, however if you think you need skids for them then get them.

Other skids are somewhat pointless like LCA, if you hit a LCA hard enough to damage it, a skid wont save it, likewise with a rear dif, if you are banging up your rear dif that much you might want to pick some better lines.

Fuel skid is meh due to its position, if anything a fuel skid just keeps people from drilling your plastic tank and stealing gas.

@EatSleepTacos would disagree, but he likes to give the mall cops hell in their parking lots.

My 1st gen had a nice fuel tank shield, gas thieves just drilled the hole midway up above it. Now, most tank skids have holes in the bottom to let sand and water drain out -perfect for poking little holes in the bottom of plastic tanks. Ive resorted to using HF driveway alert sensors near where I park- nobody can walk around my truck at night without setting them off, and they are set just high enough off the ground to avoid most cats.

I mentioned in my first post I really only think he would need the front two, only because the tranny is so exposed. I like to beat up my truck, but I know others don’t and I try to not recommend stuff that others won’t need. These stock trucks are very capable as is!

If one isnt lifted that high, I do think you made a good point about the differential- that and a reroute, perhaps? I did a reroute already, the next lowest part is my diff and I have hit that along with my exhast crossover before. - only lifted it about 1.5”, too.

It really all depends how the truck is used. Like @JoeCOVA mentioned a lot of hits against the diff can be avoided with a better line. Some are unavoidable, or more likely you’re focused on another aspect of an obstacle and hit your diff without paying attention. At least that’s what usually happens to me. Larger tires are the only way to get that diff higher off the ground.

Rerouting the exhaust under the transfer case helps a surprising amount. I wish I wouldn’t have waited so long to do mine.

LCA skids can protect your CV boots though, as well as you alignment cams

They’ll definitely protect alignment cams, but a good ifs skid will also cover those. Can’t even see mine here.

As far as protecting a cv, not sure how?
