    Hey guys,

I’m new to off Roading, took my 2018 OR up in to the GA mountains last weekend and loved it!!

One thing that bothered me a little and I feel prevented me from doing anything too adventurous was the fact I had no way of getting out if I got stuck. I also wasn’t sure if I should have aired down or not or under what conditions I should air down?? Even if I did I had no way of inflating the tires once I was done.

So I was wondering if you guys may be able to help me out with a few questions I have:

    1) Do you have any recommendations for an air compressor I can take along for around $100??

    2) What other essentials should I have with me at all times when going off Road??

    3) When should I air down? Under what conditions?

    Thanks!!

Are you saying that if a person is asking (so it’s safe to say they are new to the off road community) for 4 items to take as offroad recovery devices, those would be the 4 you would recommend?

I highly recommend that Viair. I got it on Amazon at the time for about $59(?) no problems inflating my tires back up from 18psi all around.

Researching snatch straps will be a headache as there are several opinions about different brands/thickness/length/etc. Personally - I just bought the 3" x 20' (32,000 lb) capacity strap which also came with 2 D-rings. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075CDG3Y..._rd_r=T0P8213E2JKXD3V132VY&pd_rd_w=IPOU4&th=1

Both the compressor and strap will be around your $100 mark.

Of course, there will be those who say to buy expensive bc it has a less chance of breaking or being defective. It ultimately is up to you and how crazy you get while wheeling.

Very true. I only have one b/c I got a killer deal on it. You CAN lift from the tow hitch though. You can also get the lift-mate if someone really wanted to but IDK how effective that can be. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgQJDuoJORg

A key point that I will share about recovery gear is that "you get what you pay for". Meaning cheap options are not always the best route to go when it comes to recovery gear.

Get name brand and spend the extra money for the peace of mind. My .02.

Bottom line is how serious someone is when they go out to wheel. If you are bogging it in mud damn near up to your axles and get stuck - yeah I would get the quality shit to yank someone out or quality D-rings, etc.

    Absolutely.

If you are using the hi-lift as a wench/winch and a tree-saver....I am assuming you would use a solid tow strap not a kinetic strap?

Sucks having to have a kinetic AND a tow strap depending on application.

HAHAHAH. you use the hi-lift and you're on the final notch JUST to find out that you moved it just enough to stretch the strap and the rig hasn't move any. I would be pissed.

The strap I have I got from harbor freight and it works just fine. Has dragged me out several times as well as others? Quality is good and you do get what you pay for essentially. Typically guys carry more than one in a couple of lengths.

Yeah. I bought it off another member and it hasn't been oiled in a while so I was trying to test it and it kept getting jammed. Thought I bought a broken lift. Slapped on a good coating of WD-40 and boom running like a well oiled machine.
