I was recently gifted the Envoy XUV tent. It’s been out of production for a while now but a friend found it for me (easily, apparently) on eBay.

I installed it the other week just to test the fit and get a feel for it.
It was a almost perfect fit on my 2015 DCSB with Century topper shell. It was very hard to set up the first time (coming from a tent expert) though it should be more straightforward in the future.

When installed I can have my tailgate down and window up with zipper access to the rear. You have to make sure the edges of the window on the topper aren’t sharp and interacting with the edge of the tent, mine were and I simply folded up the rubber on the seal of the window to act as padding between. Works perfect..

The extendable awning adds good protection for the rear area but would need to be guy’d Out for any kind of wind. It seems perfect though. Will test fit soon with my new rear storage and drawer system.

The included rainfly isn’t necessarily necessary but is a nice touch.

This should be a formidable setup for car camping the backcountry in Montana. Even if it’s more clostraphobic it’s better than being on the ground in a tent with the wolves, etc.

It will be very nice for cooking too.

It’s literally perfect. I searched long and hard for a better option for the dcsb and could not find anything in this configuration. I didn’t want a full 500$ tent off the back tailgate.

If somebody recreated this for the Tacoma and had stakeable sides off of the rear awning, mmmm. I might even try to modify mine to have some kind of small three sided enclosure for this.

Ya I have the dcsb too and I need a setup like that. Too short to sleep in with the tailgate up and I'm not spending $500+ on a rtt. Awning is awesome. Could lay a met down under the awning and take off/put on shoes out of the rain! Awesome man I like it.

That’s where I was at. My drawers are going to have an insert to extend my platform so I have room to stretch out and sleep. The tailgate will have to be down but the rear glass could also be down. Condensation on my feet will be a issue but I’ll get that sorted in due time. Might sleep the other direction or something. I don’t like the idea of my head being exposed but anyways.

The awning was one of my utmost requirements for my camp chair, waders and boots. Also anything else I didn’t want to get wet. I can easily adjust the angle on the awning too, from way up to the ground. That’s handy for keeping moisture off.

With practice I’d say 15min / 15 min. Maybe 10 / 10 depending on how apt you are.

The first time it took me about 25, 30 minutes. I was inspecting all components but still, it’s a moderately involved setup.

Anybody have any recommendations on waterproofing spray for this or should I ask over in the detailing forum?

I assume the normal DWR spray I use for other gear would work..

    Edit: asked in detailing forum.

Bumping old thread, but any idea where I can find one of these? Seems perfect for soft topper and much cheaper than the softopper camper version. Im sure I could DIY something, but I dont mind this already being complete for convenience sake

Where are you located? I could probably be talked into selling mine, don’t really use it any more. Not sure what shipping would cost though

Sorry for bumping this old thread but does anyone know if it would fit with a mid rise camper shell instead of the cab height. Camper shell is ARE MX series to be exact

I did a lot of research on tents, diy, and the best option I found was the Nomad camper package from topper lift. I have a roof rack and accessories on my camper shell and the Dac and envoy tent don’t fit well with that configuration, based on reviews. Nomad tent Velcro’s into the rear, no interference with the rack. Pricey but I need assurance I’m gonna be comfortable, convenient and dry. I’ll post when it arrives.

Yea I have a roof rack on mine as well. I was waiting for a group buy to make the Nomad a little less pricey. Let me us know how you like it.

Hey man! Could you share any highlights on your Nomad Camper package? Just trying to find more reviews to convince me its the right buy! I really think this is the best product out there, specially for a DCSB. It wont interfere with the windoors or any racks/accessories on top of the camper shell. Any insight would be greatly appreciated? Holding up alright in rain, snow?
