I always liked peeling the plastic off of new electronics. One time I was at a friends house and noticed he had never taken it off of his remote and I peeled it off. He was mad. :p But it looked so much better without it. I guess the point of that story is that you shouldn't worry too much about what other people like even though it might not make sense to you. We're all a bunch of weird fuckers anyway.

Edit: that and some lucky fucker is gonna get to peel all that stuff off of there some day and reveal a brand new truck.

After just one week with Xpel wrap my paint is saved. Came out to my truck and saw this damage. Paint is fine, just need to re wrap a small section.

Well for those of you that don't feel like spending 5k on this, try Dr. Color Chip. The kit is about $50. I've used this on multiple vehicles now with great results. It's not going to prevent damage but for literally 1/100th of the price you can make it so any eyesore you get is not so sore.

The Voodoo took a rock to the hood last week and I decided to take some photos for this very thread, people worried about paint and who don't already have experience with Dr. Color Chip.

The first pic is untouched, just used a little rubbing alcohol to make sure surrounding area was free from contaminates.

Second is after paint application and a couple minutes of drying.

Third is after blending with the seal act solution.

I will likely do this again one or two more times in the coming weeks to bring the chip more flush with surrounding paint but the whole process only takes less than 5 minutes.

Curious how they did around the black vinyl sticker on the hood? Hard to see in the picture.

I just bought the same Voodoo Pro and will daily drive it about 50 miles a day to work. So far, my S2000 and Accord got sandblasted to death and were red and maroon, so you could see every. single. chip. Looked like complete crap and drove me crazy. I said the next car I buy, at the very least, I’m getting the hood/bumper/front fenders/mirrors/roof and a-pillars done! Just for piece of mind and because I just dropped some serious coin on this truck and plan to keep it for a while.

Have an appointment next week to get it done (and windows tinted). The installer brought up the hood decal and said he’d get back to me on a way forward. Saw your post and made me think of it!

New to this forum but 100% agree with the OP. I put XPEL on a Rover Rover Sport 5 plus years ago and to this day no yellowing or scratches. I’ve never taken it to a car wash, etc, always do it myself. It would show because the car is white. I only applied it to the hood, lights front qtr panels and mirrors. I just bought a 2019 Tacoma and will probably do the front portion only. My 2015 looks like it’s had a light sand blasting because I drive 100 miles round trip to work.

Expensive film but I would highly recommend from experience.

XPEL is really good stuff. People are completely wrapping their 300-500k cars with the stuff near where I used to live. You'd never know it's there and it won't peel or yellow. Literally the best stuff you can get.

I have an appointment for a partial front end XPEL wrap next week. I have heard nothing but good things about the product.

I work at a dealership that sells xpel. It works well and looks great for a while, but it does yellow and show scratches over time. I was strongly considering it for my new Tacoma, but decided against it after seeing a few 2012ish cars. Also my idealistic self was like “Fiberglass fenders!”

It was the adhesive that turned yellow over time. The issue has been addressed by the manufacturer.

Or get ceramic coating done every few years for much less. That stuff works great.

When I did PPF on my Pro I took the black hood vinyl off and then installed a new one after the PPF was installed over the entire hood. Did this for two reasons 1. I didn't want air pockets around the borders and 2. if it was installed over the existing black it would make the satin finish way too shiny.

Although some would stay it's still over the top, for my PFF install I compromised and did some of the higher contact areas only; front bumper, headlights, front fenders, full hood, and side mirrors as well as all door cups. Did ceramic coating on the entire truck for an added layer.

I ended up just having it removed and left it that way. I like it better without it and haven’t had an glare issues, so all is well.

I had a Camry mostly wrapped at Shadowtint in Calgary AB. Both sides and bra, not the roof or trunk, in 2010 and it still looks good. Haven't had any thing come loose. The only seams are between the front door and front quarter panel where there wasn't enough room to wrap around the edges. Door handles removed, the whole bit, cost $2,000 Canadian back then.

I just contacted Shadowtint today about doing something similar to my new Black Dbl cab Tundra. Both sides complete. Previously had half the hood and a strip above the windshield applied by the dealer. $2,200 Canadian.

Would love to have my 2020 pro done but I can’t afford it right now. Gonna have a guy do the hood, bumper, mirrors and rockers for now. I plan on mobbing it and wanna do all I can to preserve the paint. Looks sick man
