    Hi all,

2016 TRDPro 6MT in question. When Im on the brake in traffic, the engine picks up a bit and revs to roughly around 1200rpms. I checked and the brake pedal is not mashing a floor mat into the gas pedal. Anyone have a similar thing going on?

    Thanks!

Do you need to know, or care?
It's normal for the engine to jump a little rpm while at stop. Defroster, air conditioner, little pressure on steering wheel all put load on the alternator causing bump in rpm. 1200 is extreme though, maybe a 100rpm jump would be a more normal. Unless you are talking about a cold motor that is already revving high to warm itself up, then ya, could be that high with a jump.

I think I've noticed it as well. Almost as if the torque converter is partially locked because as soon as I let off the brake the truck jumps out of the gate. Not just an easy roll into it like you typically feel when you let off the brake and let it roll.

Interesting. I put in a message into Toyota corporate about it today along with vibration during decel. It seems the TSB they just put out for the decel vibrations is just for AT. I'll let you know what they say. This is my first ever brand new car so I don't know how these things are typically handled aside from just showing up at a dealer.

I'll ping thread with their response.

OP, I just bought a '17 M/T. One of the first things I noticed is that the engine rev's when at a stop when depressing the clutch. I have not noticed it when just on the brake. It doesn't feel like an issue to me. Just the way the truck behaves. I actually thought it was a little feature that Toyota put in that revs the engine a bit when you depress the clutch to help you get going from a stop. Like the feature that holds the brake for a few seconds after you release the clutch when on an incline (Hill Start Assist?)

I thought that maybe it was a hill assist thing too but I notice it when Im on the brake without my foot on the clutch.

It might happen on the brake for me too, but I just recall noticing it more when on the clutch. It is different than other cars I've driven, but I wouldn't be concerned about it. I'm sure it's just how this engine/tranny combo behaves. If you are concerned, bring it up to the dealer when you have your next service. Or you can take another manual for a test drive and see if it does that same thing.

1200 RPMs sounds high, mine goes to 1000 RPMS or so. Read about the injection cleaning mode. When the engine is hot and at idle, it will sometimes go in to an injection cleaning mode. I think this might be what it is. It usually drops as soon as I put it in gear, but before I release the clutch.

Mine does this. As someone else said - it seems to be related to load on the engine. It'll do it while downshifting as well. I'm in a A/T.

OP, so I paid close attention to this on my commute to and from work over the past day.

The RPM's don't increase when I depress the clutch like I originally said. It only happens when I depress the brake. I also noticed that it does rev up to exactly 1200 RPMs like you stated. However, I found that it only does it while the truck is warming up. Once the truck is fully warm it won't do it anymore. The RPMs don't move when depressing the brake.

In conclusion, this is just how the engine behaves. It keeps it's revs up until the engine is fully warmed up.

Yep, it's how the truck operates. Not an issue.

Thanks all for the responses. This weekend I was a little more diligent in observing it and it definitely did coincide with the accessories being on. If I shut off the HVAC system and hit the brake there was no revving.

Mine is an auto, and it does this too, but only when cold. When the engine warms up, its fine. I guess all these engines and tranny's do this.
