Planning to change oil for my 17 Tacoma and wonder what's the exact amount of oil required? The manual says 6.1 or 6.2 qt depends on if there's a package. Some posts say depends on if it has a oil cooler or not. Mine does have tow package pre-installed. Does it mean it needs 6.2 qt?

For checking the oil level with dipstick after adding new oil, should we run the engine for a while before checking? I changed oil for a 4runner and found I can only drain less than half qt if I only take off the oil filter cap without removing the drain plug. That means oil in the filter housing is NOT always connected with oil in other parts, unless the engine is running. So if I fill the oil from the top, oil won't go into oil filter cap right away, is that correct? If so, how long does it take for oil entering there after new oil is filled?

It says "with tow package use 6.2" if changing filter. After changing oil, crank let it run for 30 seconds or so to check for leaks. Shut it off, wait a couple of minutes and check it. Done. Its really quite simple

My 4runner takes 6.6 qt. Last time I drained all oil out then added only 6.2 qt the dipstick showed overfill and scared me. Finally figured it out ...
