    2003 Tacoma.
Engine codes: P0441, P0442, P0446 (Engine light on)
Symptoms: a) Strong gasoline smell on driver side near rear wheel after driving truck.
    b) Premature gas station pump halt during gas fill-up.
    c) Engine light comes on after 25 to 50 miles after resetting it.

Is there a write-up on this forum for how to troubleshoot, install, replace the items which may be associated with the gas tank emissions. ( Roll Over, Vent valve, O-rings, Purge VSV, etc...)

Note: I have a smoke machine to check for leaks in the emission hose lines. The truck has a lift kit so dropping the gas tank some be a little easier.

    Stock. EZ pass.Dump pass.Inspection sticker.Convict printed lic.plates.FG cap.
Search YouTube using those code numbers and Tacoma.
Smoke test is a good start.

How many Toyota-defined drive cycles do you typically do in 25-50 miles? Evap readiness monitors require 2 drive cycles to set or trigger a code.

A drive cycle roughly requires a cold start, reaching operating temp, and between 1/4 - 3/4 full gas tank. Some other provisions as well, but you get the idea.

The more I think about it. It was 2 drive cycle after the reset that the light comes back on. I learn something new everyday

I only had truck for 2 weeks. Today was my first gas up. It took forever. Gas pump kept shutting off. Slowly put only 5 gallons in tank. Saw small drip leak while adding the gas. I will need to drop the tank to see what's going on. These codes and the gas tank are linked.

This might be the cause that triggered the codes above. My fingers are crossed. The car has been driven 3 times since I made the repair and reset the Engine light. Some idiot replace the gas tank filler hose with a green water hose with a kink at the bend. I am glad I found this before I put the truck in the shop to do a smoke test on the emission system to fix the codes.
The garden hose was not clamped. The non-clamping is why I smelled gas near the side of truck and triggered Engine light. The very slow gas refueling was due to the smaller diagram water hose and the kink in the hose.1.jpg 11.jpg 111.jpg 11.jpg

If that solved your problem great! If not, consider taking the bed off instead of dropping the tank. That's how I did my complete tank rebuild, hoses, valves, pump, etc. easy access to the evap canister to replace rotted hoses.

It's been 1 week. No engine codes, no gas smell, no slow refueling problem. Problem appear to be fixed.

Maybe I spoke too soon. Engine light back on after 210 miles. Maybe 10 cold starts. I reset the light. Tighten down on gas cap. I will see if it comes on again.
