    Engine Swap
So I’m completely stumped and in great need of some help!

I have a 95 Tacoma with over 320k miles I swapped the engine in it because it was cheaper then replacing the head gasket and I wasn’t sure how long the previous owner ran it wile it was dumping coolant in the engine and over heat.

I have completely finished the engine swap and everything was going well until I connected the battery and tried to start it.

The hazard light would not turn off and there was a faint alarm sound and when I tried to start the engine nothing would happen. After pulling the key out the CEL turned on so I put the key in the on position to read the code however the CEL goes away and I don’t get any bad codes.

I tried locking and unlocking the doors disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes plus. I tried putting the key in the on position and connecting the battery… pretty much everything I could find on any forum… nothing had worked.

Eventually I saw something about pulling a fuse to reset the system so I pulled the fuse for the starter and put it back and the hazard lights stoped however the engine will not start. And the CEL continues to only turn on when I put the key in the off position or take it out.

I replaced the cam position sensor in case there was a bad read from it and I’m thinking of changing the starter however a part of me still believes that there is still some security measure that will not allow the truck to start.

I was never able to start the “new” engine so I’m not sure if there is anything that could be wrong with my installation though obviously there is, I just can’t figure it out.

I am open to any ideas!

    Thank you for your help!!

Verify that the ground cable from the battery negative is tight on the block, make sure that the negative lead from the battery to the inner fender is there and tight, same for the ground lead behind the passengers side head is attached to the firewall. In addition make sure that the PCM grounds are good on the upper intake.

Where are the PMC grounds to put them on the intake?
    This may be my issue!

    That was it!!
The PMC ground wire is with the diagnostic plug in the engine and connects to a bolt on the lower plenum. After I did that the CEL went away and she fired right up!!

    thank you so much!
