I purchased yesterday a 2014 Tacoma, and when I brought it home last night, I noticed something flashing on the dash

    Looked it up...
THERES A CAr with a key in it blinking

    I was not pleased

Is there a way of disabling the Engine Immobilizer System other than with a paper clip

    Thank you

No, why would you want to disable it? It rarely gives trouble.

Absolutely. The chip in your key paired to the immobilizer disables the immobilizing effect.

In all seriousness, not really. That's the point of the immobilizer; if it were easy to disable/bypass, it'd be easy for a criminal to do it too.

I assume you towed it home on a trailer? But what was the circumstance in which you bought it without test driving it or at least even test cranking over the engine?

I think the paperclip was in reference to re associate the immobilizer computer to the ECU so you can actually start the truck with keys that are paired to the immobilizer computer. (It's a 30 min process that involves jumping 2 pins off the obd port which you can use a paper clip for)

What a wormhole I went down.

    Things I leaned were:

    1. I don't have the necessary equipment to do it
    2. I don't read or speak "geek"
    3. I'm just smart enough to screw something up.

I've seen a few threads here about starting issues traced back to the immobilizer system. Same with the Tundras.
    It's a real thing.

The lack of an immobilizer system is what makes certain Kias and Hyundais so easy to steal.

Not as much here but I heard a lot of issues with the GM system, so it's possible..or maybe OP is just curious

Toyota used a system in these trucks that made it "not as easy" to steal.
You can NOT bypass they system. The ECM has to enable Ignition and Fuel.
And this is only done when the Transponder ECU sends the correct ID code to the ECM.
The only way to bypass the system, is to install a new Transponder ECU, Register a new key to the ECU, and then register the key to the ECM.

And the Transponder ECU is buried in the dash. Not easy to get to.

That is a terribly slow process, and SLOW is not ideal when it comes to stealing a vehicle.
