Santa brought me new black emblem overlays and a TACOMA tailgate insert that I'd love to install ASAP. How important is application temperature to having the 3m tape adhere properly? I'd love to put them on tomorrow, but I don't have a heated garage and it's supposed to be a high of 34°F where I'm at tomorrow. If temperature is important, do you think I could get by with heating everything up with a hair dryer for a few mins?

I would guess if the surface and overlays are put on warm and dry it would be fine.

i was mostly concerned with cleaning the surface first with alcohol first.

The emblem install instructions recommend a minimum temp of 70 degrees. Definitely use a heat source if it's a high of 34.

Be smart and don't damage your paint.

I installed my overlays when it was about 50° out and I used a hair dryer to heat back of the overlay and the panel on the truck. Also wiped the panel and existing badge down well with rubbing alcohol first.

I’m in NJ too and it’s supposed to get really cold at night depending where you are so maybe wait for a warmer day to be safe.

I put some overlays on, in my garage at about 45 degrees but just used the low setting on the hair dryer for a couple minutes. Keep the overlays in a warm spot also before install. Worked fine and the truck has been through a few car washes with no probs.

anxiety is not Ur friend.........check local weather might come Ur way n a few days

make sure ALL surfaces are clean.................. i used dawn to clean then wiped with alcohol

nxt i used distilled water with just a drop o 2 of natural soap drops

nothing fancy with lotion or oil ......deodorants

just plain soap drops......as little as possible....................what the pros do
see bubbles Uv used TOO much soap

just enuf where there are no separate drops

makes it slick to position decals square plus smooth

U would think long term it might NOT stick strong......... NOT SO !!
    just a few drops..........

Temperature is important. Do you have a garage you can heat up? If not, a friend's garage you can use up some of their electricity for? Otherwise, I'd wait it out. Sucks because the temps have recently dropped lately, but better off doing it correctly from the start if you want minimal issues.

Being in the north my entire life I can say from my own experience that everything that I have applied in the cold has never held up... Even things that I have heated. I pretty much just tell myself that I need to wait a few months every time.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Monday's high looks like it'll be closer to 50°F. I think I can at least wait until then and my results shouldn't be any worse than they'd be if I tried to do it tomorrow. I am planning on using mineral spirits as my cleaner/degreaser.

I stuck mine on at about 40 degrees Fahrenheit, after a good cleaning of the area. They're still stuck on there a couple weeks later...

Same same... I got the matte black tailgate decals I REEEAALLLY want to put on today, but I am sitting at a high of 36 today.... I was going to try the hair dryer trick and such, but it sounds like I should wait till the spring thaw.

I also have the black V6/4x4/SR5/Tacoma badges on the way... figured I could spend a warm day and do them all then.

That with my new upTop bed rack and my overlander tent... whooooo weeeee.... its gonna be a fun spring!

I installed some tailgate inserts two years ago shortly after I got the truck. Was ~50 degrees outside, but I positioned the truck so that the sun shined on the tailgate most of the morning. Kept the emblems inside over night and laid them out in the direct sun as well.

Everything went peachy without any additional warming of items. That was over 2 years ago now, no issues.

Point: Make sure it's warm. Applying sticky things in the cold never works out long term.

What if outside temperature is 95F?

If the surface has been cleaned well I don't think ambient temp being higher is a negative. I would be more worried about applying them when cold.

Maybe just keep them out of direct sun light the rest of the day.

My EyeCatcher brand ones were applied in 2019 and still looking new.
