Hey all, long story short, I just purchased (in full) a 2022 TRD Off-Road, and the dealer had pre-installed a GPS tracker of the brand "ELO". I have full ownership of the vehicle, and want absolutely no part in the dealership being able to track me (it also supports ignition lockout). Anyone familiar with these devices? Any input is greatly appreciated. I found some info online and will share, the photo of the device on the ground is from a Jeep forum, and the other photo is the unit in my truck.CEA2F15A-BDCC-45BB-B896-B4CD54B035B7.jpg 6D039887-DD13-4A80-A4AB-856EF13112EA.jpg

I'd just take it back to them and say get rid of it, I never authorized this and I paid you in full for the truck....in a nice way of course :)

Looks like you simply unplug the device and put your original OBD2 port back into the spot it should be in from factory.

I should have clarified this but I already asked, and they refused to remove it. Their reasoning was that they already installed it, did not charge me for it, so they won't put any labor into removing it.

I will try this, however the reason I haven't ripped the whole thing out already is that it supports ignition lockout and can kill the engine remotely, so it obviously has ties with the ignition somehow. Does this functionality run through the OBD II port? If so, wow! I had no clue you could do such things through that port alone.
Thanks for the pdf by the way, very helpful.

    Oh look, another mod....
They didn't charge you for it, but they still have the ability (and access) to remotely disable your truck. Would they do it? There's a 99.999% chance they won't. But like you said, it's your truck and you don't want it installed.

Why am I not surprised. God forbid a dealer should actually do something to satisfy their customer.

From what I can tell, it plugs into the OBD port and nothing else. But I'll admit, my knowledge is limited by what you showed and what I found online. They may have different models.

These units usually stick a relay between the ignition circuit under the steering wheel. However from those pictures I am not seeing the mechanism for that.

If there is only the OBD port and no other connected wires then you should be good to remove it.

Actually that's a good point. Tell them fine, but if that truck ever gets stolen or anything is ever missing out of it, the police will be the first to know you put a tracker/disabling device in it.

I agree it looks like it doesn't have the connections for that, however the dealer did tell me that it supports remote start, stop, etc. so either they acted even more shady by lying about its features, or its gonna be a headache to remove.

I've purchased units like this and installed them on some of my vehicles. The starter interrupt is pretty easy to follow. There is usually some blue butt splices where they cut the starter wire under the steering wheel. If your unit has those then you just need to remove the splice and connect them back again.

    Check build thread!
It doesn’t look like that functionality has been installed. I’d just unplug it, put the factory OBD2 port back in, write a nasty, nasty ass review online on that dealer (google is best, it hits them hardest, make sure it’s very detailed and include pictures) and spread the word to anyone around you not to go there.

Stop by a good car audio shop.
That can properly remove and repair (if needed) in short order.

Well, that is a disappointing attitude toward customer service. I wouldn't ever spend a dime there again.

Wow that’s shitty on multiple fronts.
I’d unplug, if it won’t start call the dealer and tell em to send a tow. Or if you’re not comfortable w removing it (and I don’t blame ya!), I like the idea of finding a good local audio/alarm shop.
