I bought a 7-pin connector/adapter. I'm told that I have the factory tow package with the 4-pin connector.

The 7-pin adapter has a 4-pin connector that plugs into the factory connector on the truck.
Then you run the other 3 wires.

That way I can still use the factory 4-pin connector by just disconnecting the 7-pin.

I think I have everything wired correctly so far.

I still need to connect the brake light switch to the electric brake controller.

Does anybody know where I find the cold side of the switch in a 2001 SR5 PreRunner?

    Thanks in advance.

I unplugged the brake light switch connector and it tested that the red wire is always hot.

There are four wires: 2 gray, 1 red and 1 purple.

I'm guessing that the purple wire is the cold side as stated in the directions because it didn't light up the test probe.

A problem now is there is not enough length to splice into the purple wire. And I can't get two hands up under the dash anyway.

Does anybody know where the junction box is, or some other place that I can tap into the purple wire?

I've looked for a purple wire everywhere I can see under the dash and didn't find one.

Yes, I'd test the purple wire with the brake peddle depressed to make certain I'm correct, but I don't know how to do that with the connector connected. There's not enough room for the probe under the dash.

Anyway, if someone knows where I can tap into the purple wire, so I can test it with the connector connected that is much appreciate.

Do you know where I can find a schematic? Thanks!

Update: I was able to get a wire shoved into the purple wire's connection. I reconnected the connector and the purple side lights up the probe when the brake peddle is depressed.
