Edit: Changed title as it wasn't very accurate.

I bought a second set of wheel originally for snow tires but ever since I started to use the Wildpeaks I don't do the winter swap any more.

Rather than a winter swap, I was thinking of something a bit more off road specific for summer camping trips like the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T. I think Falken makes a trail model that's a bit different from the Wildpeaks but I don't really know anything about them.

Anything else to consider without full on mud tires, as I try to avoid mud anyway, or off road only stuff as I still need to drive to work, etc.

Sorry about that, but thanks for the link.

Mainly I'm wondering about doing a summer swap rather than a winter swap so using these tires mainly in the summer when I'm out camping and off roading a bit more. Just looking for something a bit more off road oriented without being a huge MPG hog or unsafe in normal driving.

They’re not great on mpg, really heavy tires, 65 or 67lb each for 285/75/16. That said, I think they’re great tires. I’ve not had any issues in rain or off roading. You didn’t say what size you wanted so the weight might be a little less. In case you didn’t see they are winter rated with the 3 peaks icon.

Really great looking tires and pretty quiet. I’m averaging 13-15mpg with these tires, SCS wheels, engine skid, sliders and a roof rack. Just to give you an idea of how much weight I have in my truck.

    Are the e-rated? I'm looking at 265 /75 R16 SL and apparently 43lbs per discount tire's site.

I used to get over 20mpg but for whatever reason I'm now down to about 18 with no changes to the truck. This is with Wildpeaks in the same size.

Oh yea, that’s a much different weight lol. I just looked too and the 286 are 66lbs, so my statement doesn’t help you at all lol. I’m not sure if all the sizes are 3 peak rated either but it didn’t sound like you were going to use them for winter.

It says they are 3peak rated but I don't know how accurate the DT site is for all the various sizes and load ratings.

I will probably go back to the Wildpeaks for winter, but I would like to see how these do in snow. Maybe they will become my new year-round tires.

I don't believe this to be correct - all tires (normal E range LT version and the passenger SUV version) less than 12.5" wide are 3PMS.
    • Severe Snow Service Rated with the 3PMS Symbol certifies that all sizes 12.50 (315) and narrower are severe snow rated
