Anyone update their ecu from 04a70 to 04a71? Any significant difference? I was going to try a new tune but they only make it for the updated version.

The person doing your tune should update your ECU to the latest.

I’ve tuned the truck myself. I don’t live near any one who tunes these trucks.

If you’ve tuned the ecu before. Updating with a tsb is nbd. I think @tonered has directions in his signature

Yep its pretty simple. The hardest part of updating TSBs is getting techstream installed. The actual update is basically turning the truck off/on when prompted and clicking next

If using VFTuner you will need to use credits to unlock 04A71 Cal ID before you can flash/edit it if I understand correctly.

You only need to unlock it to edit it. You can flash without unlocking it.

Do you have the VF tuner cable or tactrix Openport 2.0 cable? They both do the same thing. Like others said, you can download Techstream and install on a Windows PC and update your ecu to the latest (+ the drivers from Tactrix.com). All from the first post in this thread

Yes I have the tactrix cable. Same one I got when I ordered ov tune. So my other reason to be hesitant to updating is that I have KDMAX for my current ecu and will have to buy another version if I update. I also heard there is a possibility of stacking the ecu and want to avoid that. So if there is no noticeable difference with the update I might leave it alone.

If you bought the KDMax tune from me and then update, just send me a PM with the new ECU ID and I'll get it to you--updating is no charge.

I did buy the tune from you back in May. Any reason that you would recommend updating the ecu or should I just leave it?

I always recommend being on the most up to date Toyota software. So yes, I would update.
