I know most will say the permanent fix will be to re-gear.

I agree, I dont have the money to re-gear the truck, and once I do that I'll add Lockers to them. making it more expensive.

So for the meantime Is there harm in running ECT POWER all the time?

The reason I ask, I lifted and have 285/70/17 (~33") tires and have suffered some power drag. The truck runs pretty well with ECT power delaying the shifting. Id rather burn more gas than wear out a transmission constantly shifting.

It works better with a Tune!

I'm not promoting Tunes...by no stretch of the imagination! lol

An OTT Tune does wonders with ECT engaged.

The ECT button is great in certain circumstances. The main problem in my opinion is that the 4th to 5th gear shift happens around 62 mph, which is kind of inconvenient when driving around town. I'd prefer it to happen around 48 mph.

I made the drive from Michigan to Virginia and back again a few times a year in my 17 OR. Never had it turned and ran ECT for most of the trip esp the Pennsylvania turnpike. Had it drop into limp mode out of nowhere while I was doing 80 west bound in ohio. Shut it down and called a tow to the nearest dealership. Techs couldn't reproduce it and the truck was fine afterwards. It threw some codes for the transmission temp tho. So I suspect running the transmission hotter for 12+ hours with ECT caused an issue there. The 17 had the additional transmission cooler as well. So maybe don't run it all day if you start to have any issues.

With 33s I always used ECT and my mpgs went to trash. Got a Banks Pedal Monster and it made my truck drivable even peppy, then I got an OTT tune and it was an substantial improvement over the Banks. Now my truck has 33.8s and it is struggling and doesn't switch to 6th gear on the freeway so finally I'm going to retune and order ECGS 3rd members to regear. A pedal controller like Banks or a tune will make your truck more drivable, I've had my truck since 2017 and have had 32.8"(33s) on it most of the time without having to regear and my truck has sliders, skids, roof rack, bumper, recovery gear...

I tried ECT, don't like it at all. It must be there strictly for towing large loads. I still have the 265/70 16'' tires, just a bit wider than what the truck came with. Truck runs great otherwise.

I'm thinking it must have been another issue. Pulled a uhaul trailer 8 hours in ect had no issue. The trailer plus the ect you'd think would overheat the trans if this was the case. Doesn't higher revs and holding a lower gear cool the trans faster than lugging in a higher gear?

    I've been using S-mode too!

S-4 around town and S-5 on the highway.

A tune will certainly help with this, and its definitely cheaper than a regear! Additionally, with the A/T you get the bonus of the "sport" tune on the ECT button to use when you're towing some weight. I definitely found it made a nice difference on my 2019 TRD Sport, not only in terms of low and mid range power, but also better throttle response and far better transmission shifting! That was my real frustration with my truck and the tune was a dramatic improvement in that regard.

2020 TRD Sport, i have got to get a tune done, I am very light go pedal most of the time, it shifts so early into 3rd at times that after it shifts, it hesitates and then shifts back to 2nd for a little longer, and then into 3rd, if i am heavier on the go pedal it is better, but being my daily driver and trying to get a little better mileage during the week it drives me bonkers.
Weekends or highway speeds i love it, have had it since October and put about 14k on it after buying it with 18k. That all being said, anyone know of a place in West Michigan, Holland\GR area that does the OTT tune?
