Is there like a changelog of the map versions? I don't want to buy it if it updates roads in a different state..

If you eventually get a signal, it's not due to a loose connection.

Every time you start the unit and clear the waiver screen, the GPS takes a two step process to get a location. First it must receive a string of data known as the ephemeris. Basically, this data gives the unit the baseline data is needs to generate a location from the satellites in your line sight. This signal is broadcast every 30 seconds, and the data has a limited lifespan (20-30 minutes I'd guess). The thing about this though, is that this data string must be received without a single error. Just about anything can interfere with this (wipers, trees, buildings) but it WILL pass through glass and the dash although this degrades the signal so the effect of other obstacles becomes more of a problem.

Once the ephemeris is received, the unit will begin to receive data from other satellites to triangulate your position. Since you often have visibility to more satellites than you need (2, 3 for altitude) you never notice an error from an obstructed line of site.

Other GPS units (like my old Pioneer AVIC) use accelerometers and a signal from the speed sensor to "dead reckon" your position while all this is taking place. Unfortunately and probably to save cost, the AVN has neither of these. Even worse, this entire process doesn't begin until you clear the waiver screen so if you're out driving and want to start navigating it can take a good bit of time to get a location.

Best solution to the problem for us is to relocate the antenna outside the vehicle.

I wouldn't do it yet...eclipse has brought on the services of a third party to handle their updates. It's a tedious process, and when I was about to finish and install the updates to the device, the unit told me there was not enough memory. I purchased the map updates, 3d building updates, and POI updates. Tech support is next to useless, and I'm out $106 with not a single update applied.

Wow sin that sucks. I was gonna do all of those patches this morning. Did any of them work? I have had trouble installing the synctool on my unit. I have copied and pasted the synctool onto a 2 gb SD card and floowed the NAV screens to the NAV update page, hit update.....nothing happens. Any advice? I was thinking of just getting the 3d maps.

I think the POI would be what I'd get for sure. The 3D maps are cool but not needed. I hate when I do a POI and they aren't in business or have moved. All you can do is laugh though.

No, nothing installed. The AVN backed up to the SD card just fine and the toolbox picked up my card without issue. The problems started when I tried to apply all 3 updates to the SD card. Toolbox said there was not enough room, so I ended up just installing maps and buildings. It took nearly 36 hours for the download to complete (on a 15Mbit line). Once it finished it I popped the card into the AVN and tried the update. It very quickly told me there was not enough space on the unit. tech support has been worthless.

I had to remove the synctool from the zip archive before placing it in the root of the drive. Did you update the software from eclipse as well? I believe that is required.

I just encountered the following problem.

When I start the navi on the unit I get the following message “ERROR, MEDIA FILE ARE MISSING UNABLE TO PERFORM UPDATE”.

This error message started after I performed the map update procedures “Step 2 Map Update” procedure 7 as called out by the Eclipse support web site.

Prior to this procedure I performed “Step 1 AVN726E/AVN76D software update” which occurred without any issues.

    Please help!

    Thanks

I just put crips on the ends of the wires and stuck them into the back of the deck. The bottom two are either grnd or pos. and the top right one is the opposite. I put heat shrink over the metel part of the crimps to prevent them from touching...

With the help of the Eclipse tech guys I was able to overcome this error. I reset the unit by using a paperclip and inserting it for three seconds in a hole located behind the screen. I was told by Eclipse that the unit will only take 1.8 gb of data so I downloaded my map, POI, 3D, safety cameras, etc... by selecting my state and sorrounding states. All of my updates fit in the 2 GB SD card and in the unit.

Yep. Any iOS after 4.0 won't work with the Eclipse. Apple fucked up something really bad (it's not just incompatible with Eclipse, many OEM manufacturers can't use it - like Nissan). I had to downgrade my iPhone to 3.1.3 and it now works.

You guys would have to downgrade the iPhone 4 to 3.1.3 to make it work.

Too bad Fujitsu Ten isn't selling anything stateside anymore, I've owned 3 Eclipse AVN head units and loved them all. Don't have one anymore :(

I don't believe that's true...I put one of these in my girlfriends Audi in February and it works fine with her updated iphone 4.
