Well my truck is getting pissed at me because its been all lopsided for about the whole day at this point.

Title pretty much says it. I have tried for about 45 minutes to get the ECGS tool behind the bearing. No dice. This includes saying f it and hitting with a punch and a 4lb hammer.

I thought ECGS fixed this issue?

Anyone have ideas or measurements on their tool piece that has worked?

    Thank you

Not sure if this would be applicable to you but it seems that someone "Timmy The Toolman" has gone thru this. You MAY have the older version of the tool, not sure. Fast FWD to 23:00 (around there) and "Timmy" explains how he modified the tool to work.

Thanks for the reply. I have watched that video about three times now. It’s a few years old and in the comments section Timmy says that he has contacted ECGS about the issue and they have updated the tool and fixed the issue.

That is literally the only reason I am attempting this myself. I would not have done this if the grinding was still required.

I mean I could have the wrong size, but that would be on them. I ordered the 7.5" bushing and with their drop down menu ordered the 7.5" tool.

Thats kinda why I want to know what people have for measurements.

Or if anyone is on the western slope of CO and has one that works that they could lend me that would be swell.

Just checked the bearing race and seal driver kit and the smallest one is too big for the bushing, so this is shaping up to be a great f ing time.

Got off the phone with ECGS. Sent me the wrong size. Sending me a new one.

Meanwhile, what do people use to drive the bushing in with? Do I just try using the face side of one of these drivers?

Good to know I am not a complete idiot and only mostly mechanically incompetent.

Good to hear they are working with you to resolve your issue and are sending you a new one. Helped a friend do his, we used a socket that was the same size/diameter as the new bushing. I inserted a piece of PVC that fit inside the socket so it would not bounce/slide around the bushing as it was being tapped in. You could probably use a wood dowel in there as well. Did get to use the tool from ECGS and it did not require too much coercion to go in, I believe it took all but 5 minutes to get the bushing out. The tool was his so I could not gather any information on its size/measurement. Hopefully once your item arrives it will go really smooth.

Read on another thread that a 2nd gen owner used a pilot bearing puller to get it out. I am going to head to AZ to see if they have one and if it will work to remove.

So it sounds like I just use the face side of the driver? Would be the same thing a using a socket right?

Had a similar issue when I went to use it on mine... ended up grinding the tool down just a bit to get it to seat behind the needle bearing... took all of 2 tries to get it down just enough to fit.

Not sure about the face side, I only used the socket method since I have done it before and I did not want to beat up my friends pricey ECGS tool.

So didn't want to wait another day.

Went and got this rental tool thanks to reading a post from Dee1seven (sorry i don't know how to tag)
    https://www.autozone.com/loan-a-too...ch-pilot-bearing-puller-attachment/230517_0_0

Worked perfectly. Four pulls and the bearing was out. I probably messed something up and now my truck will spontaneously combust, but it is done. Save yourself $45.

To press the bushing in I used the face side of a bushing driver with a piece of aluminum tube I have as a socket cheater bar placed over the handle of the bushing driver.

Bummer all this work didn't fix the noise issue. I actually feel like the truck is driving worse now.

I think I might have had the same issue with my 1st gen.
I very gradually took the corners off the tool until it fit past the bearing.
From what I remember it added a couple hours onto the job.
