Can someone provide me with the following information? It's for the 2017 Tacoma 4x4 offroad.

    1. Toyota part number for the outer bearing? It's the one that the CV axle slides into before it goes into the front differential and into needle bearing.

    2. The front differential gear oil specification. If you use a brand other than Toyota what is this brand and where did you buy it?

Are you referring to the HUB bearing?

ECGS recommends Lucas non synthetic 85w140 oil when installing the bushing. You should also get a new seal. All is available on the ECGS website.

I have the bushing and fluid in my Tacoma and 4Runner. Its so much smoother and no more noise/vibes.

    Yeah
The local dealer where I had to take my own container for them to pump 2qts into from the drum to sell me since they were out of bottles and had no interest in ordering a couple qts just for me when they buy it in bulk (not many people DIY around here so it was understandable).

The exact weight may be climate dependent but either way it’s just Amsoil severe gear that Toyota slaps their logo on. Choose your preferred weight for the climate you live in.

The dealer has no obligation to buy it's supplies from Toyota. It only has to follow the recommendations. And even then I don't think they do. Not sure I would trust that source... they will just buy whatever is available... and slap a sticker on it...

Hell it is probably an old Amsoil barrel that is filled by a supply company... reused for decades... I know where I work, our oils are delivered buy trucks and pumped into tanks or barrels... we only get grease in replaceable barrels.

I went with Lucas 85 - 140 gear oil. Ordered the seal from ECGS with the bushing.

Dealers are going to be using the "or equivalent" guidance with the cheapest close-enough oil the local bulk supplier offers.

Is the seal necessary or only if it gets nacked in the removal/install?

would you want to wait for it to arrive if you did damage the seal when removing the needle bearing? seems like a safe bet to have it handy if and when you need it during the job

Will be installing in a week or two. TRue enough, for the cost, much better to have and not need then need and not have. I was mostly not sure of the ID of the seal is smaller than the OD of the bushing/needle bearing.

I completed the needle bearing replacement. I recommend that you remove and replace the outer oil seal. It seems to be difficult to work when you try to keep the existing seal in place when replacing the needle bearing with the clamshell bushing especially with the bushing installation when you have to hammer like crazy to get it in.

I did my ECGS bushing within the past few weeks, I recommend the same. Just replace that Oil Seal at the same time. What cj15 says makes the most sense, you don't want to have to pull the halfshaft out again in a few weeks or months to replace a faulty Oil seal that you thought would last. Plus, if you damage it during ECGS install and don't notice it, and hey it can happen, then replacing it during ECGS install makes the most sense.
