EBC Yellow brake pad short (19K miles) pad life

    Back in May of 2014 I installed the EBC stage 5 brake kit (yellow brake pads) at 51,500 miles. Fast forward to 2018, while changing the front wheel bearings yesterday I noticed the brake pads have approx 1/16 of an inch renaming. My Tacoma now has 70,346 miles as of this posting. So at now I am looking at replacing the brake pads at 19k miles.

    As you can see my Tacoma averages around 5k in miles a year because I have a work vehicle issued to me by my job. I have enjoyed the braking performance of the EBC yellow pads but I am disappointed in the pad life. When I changed over from the stock pads they still had almost half the pad left on them if I remember correctly.

    So not the question, should I stay with the EBC yellow pads or go with another brand. Last night I searched a web and see others that have used the EBC yellow brake pads in Tundra's and Tacoma's have stated the pad has a short mileage life expectancy. One owner of a Tundra stated he had to change the front brake pads at 9k miles.

    High performance brakes have crappy longevity. They are high performance because they produce better friction, well better friction = much faster wear.

    You will not get high performance and good longevity together in a brake pad.

    So you have to pick what you want.

    Stick with OEM stuff and drive it like a truck not a sports car. Currently at 67k miles and Ill easily make it to 100k on all original stuff.

    I understand high performance brakes. I have a 2015 BMW M3 (standard brakes)and even though it only has 16k miles the brakes look new. Before that I had a 2012 Corvette Z06 with standard brakes and at 40k it still had the original brake pads.

    This is my first truck and I thought I would get at 40k out of the EBC yellow pads.

    ahhhh therein lies the problem .... you are driving this truck like your sports car. Your sports car probably has close to if not more than 2x the pad surface area up front and they have big disks in the rear and an equal weight bias vs the truck.... also the truck weighs quite a bit more.
