Note this was on a tundra. I often cross reference the Tacoma forum when I can’t find answers on Tundras.com. Wanted to share this here for peoples info.

Want to post an update on the koyo eBay bearings. I purchased them due to this post. 6 months of use and I had 2 studs shear off. When I removed my wheel 2 more studs were loose. I tried to source replacement studs but the studs they use are smaller than oem. It’s Chinese crap unfortunately. Seller was unhelpful when contacted. Kyoautoparts was the sellers business on eBay.

I think bluepitbearings has tundra assemblies. eBay/Amazon are always a risk

Thanks for the post. Do you think going with OEM wheel studs will fix the issue? They're not too expensive and if that's the only thing that needs to be replaced, the cost benefit might still be worth it.

No the OEM studs are larger, they wont pull into the hole, so if you break one you are SOL replacing it locally. AZ_Taco said it best, bluepitbearings use oem components. It's close to twice the price but failure is unacceptable here.

I think the only options are find studs that fit, or drill the holes. I personally wouldn’t drill them. Maybe there’s a stud out there that fits, I don’t have a sure fire answer there. Otherwise I think you need to go with new hub assemblies, preferably ones with OEM specs so in the future if you need to replace lugs, you know you can.

In the past I’ve never had issues with Dorman studs. # 610-528 might be the ones for your hub - M14 1.5. $10 each or $30 for a box of ten on Amazon.

With right tools you generally don't need to remove the bearing wheel assembly to replace the studs. Drill a hole on the brake shield and press out the studs with an air gun. Use combination of washers to pull the stud through, using hammer and punch to set it in place. Cover hole with duct tape. I did this on my Taco when I replaced with longer studs. Saw a similar video on this for a car. Saved me lots of time.

We have a board member who builds new wheel hub assemblies using NSK bearings and Dorman or similar branded parts. It might be worthwhile for you Tundra guys to reach out to him to see if he can do something similar for you guys. @05Taco4x4

I actually have an outstanding hub order with Chad right now. I didn’t mention him (and mentioned blue pit) just because he doesn’t list Tundra on his thread.

I put two Bluepit hub assys on a friend's Tacoma. He drove it for several years, no issues, and then traded it in. Yes, they are expensive, but if you only want to do the job once, it should be worth it for most people to spend the $ knowing you won't be doing it over again in a few years. I bought OE bearings for my truck and pressed them on; it was definitely a lot more time, way more than double, than just the Bluepit assembly; if you value your time, a quality assembly is the way to go.

I get so frustrated with folks whose OEM bearings finally took a dump at 125,000 miles and they replace them with cheap Chinese Amazon / eBay assemblies. Then they post something like "Why waste your money on OEM bearings when you can use these for 1/4 the price? I've got almost 500 miles on them and have had zero problems." Yea, right.

Manufacturing high quality bearings is expensive. If you cut corners, you cut product life. Many folks can't see past a low price with great (and fake) reviews though. Sad.

One use and the tool paid for itself.
If you rotate the front hub while mounted in the truck there is a spot that has enough clearance to remove the old studs and install new studs without removing the hub assembly. With a broken stud I might just hammer it out and press the new one in.
I have used Dorman studs with sucess and used this tool for removal and install on my Tacoma and Corolla.

Hey man you got any more info on those studs you ordered? I got a pair of hub assemblies from Yotabearingsandhubs and my mechanic immediately decides to fuck one of the studs and over-torque the rest. I had a fun time finding out that they used smaller diameter knurl (12.9mm) instead of oem 14.1mm knurl studs.

In the photo attached, you can see the three side by side.
The top clearly is the stripped one that came in my new hub assembly. (12.9mm knurl)
Middle is a new Dorman stud I got from Autozone. (14.1mm)
The bottom is the OEM stud I removed from my old hub, thought I was home free to just replace them all with OEM... wrong (14.1mm)

Working with the guy Dave from Yotabearingsandhubs to get new studs sent out and find a spot to order more, but this seems like a disclaimer should be on the website. These are different spec studs. If I was out on the road and had an issue, I would have been pretty fucked.
