My '96 Tacoma has no real cup holder (yeah it does have that flimsy thing that pulls out of the dash but I dont like it), and I would kinda like to have one thats more solid. Its a 5 speed. I usually have a water bottle in the car with me, its pretty heavy, probably almost 3/4 liter, and steel. I know some of the later 1st gens came with cup holders near the shifter (maybe 99-2000ish+), but they also had the leather shift boot. Has anyone retrofitted a cup holder from one of these trucks to theirs? Or has anyone come up with a homemade cup holder or have any ideas for one?

    Thanks

are you missing the cupholder pullout from the dash? I have a '96 5 speed and I have that. It sucks to use though.

Sorry, forgot to mention that one. I do still have it but it seems really flimsy. I would want to put much in there. I am thinking something more like the one that the later 1st gens had near the shifter. I dunno if anyone ever made one that could bolt to the floor where the shifter boot bolts to? Thats more what I am looking for, something solid.

ah. I too, am looking for a similar option. at this point I am unaware of anything like that without installing a whole new center console.

My 99 doesn't have any cup holders. It has shallow, square item holders in the center console that work for a lot of items except for cups.

Ok, then maybe they started in 2000. I know a guy who has a 2000 Taco and it has the cup holder by the shifter.

Do you have bucket seats or 60/40 bench?

If the former you can get an 01-04 center console with real cup holders. Make sure to get the bracket and it'll bolt right in.

There is one version of the manual shift console (also one for auto) that has a cup holder hanging off the passenger side into the footwell. Toyota no longer makes it so you will have to find it on eBay or junkyard.

Nope, I have a straight bench seat, so unfortunately the console wont fit.

nzbrock, that is exactly what I am talking about. Guess I will have to check around.

Yeah the cup holder situation really sucks for me too...tumbler doesnt fit in empty holder, yet gets in the way of shifting to 2nd, 4th and reverse if its where my spit cup sits in this pic.

You mean bucket seats? I dont mind a bench seat, but I know the console would be nice. Maybe someday when I can afford it I can go to buckets. :)

If you look closely, (above empty cup holder) you can see 2 spots where my tumbler cup sits and rubs...it sits at an angle and falls out if i hit a good bump.
