    Hey TW,

I just recently got access to SolidWorks again since I left my mechanical engineering program at Georgia Tech. Now I can start designing all of the projects I've been keeping in my head!

My plan is to make most if not all of these designs available to TW for the good of the forum. I'm sure at some point, I'll be asking for feedback when I get to designing my front plate bumper, enclosed bed rack, and other projects I come up with.

My first project is was to make a steel target for precision rifles. It will be made out of 3/8" AR-500 steel to hold up to 5.56 and 7.62 rounds. I chose to go with an E-Type silhouette that I will mount on a pressure treated 4x4. My plan is to leave the 4x4 in the ground where ever I decided to set up the range, and then be able to quickly place/remove the target when I want to shoot. I'm going to try and ensure that I can drive to the 4x4 though, because I don't want to carry this plate 600+ meters! The bracket that the 4x4 will slip into is trivial, and as it always happens, I came up with a much simpler, better design (KISS) as I was driving home after printing off the drawing. Oh well.

The important things are the dimensions of the E-Type silhouette. These were difficult to come across. The most important dimensions are the height (40 inches), width (19.5 inches), head width (8.5 inches) and head height (10.5 inches). These are important for military range estimation with mil-dot scopes or ACOG's. I made some of the rest of them up (radius for the corners, etc.)

I will post pictures when I get the plate back from the shop!

    Enjoy.

Looks very nice. You're good with that program. Any progress since?

Yep! I've had it built and I've tested it out :)

It takes a little explanation, but I was sighting in my precision rifle at 250m on this iron maiden. Notice the two shot groups that start at the bottom of the silhouette, and work upwards. I finally placed three two-shot groups into the chest/base of the neck (second picture), decided it was zeroed, and handed the rifle off to a buddy and his girlfriend. That's when the pattern started to "open up". Those two-shot groups are about 1" apart - the gun was holding ~0.5 MOA :)
