Just put a dyno max ultraflo on my 4.0 Tacoma and I’m shocked….. it sounds like a straight piped honda and Pontiac had sex absolutely disgusting sounding. Was hoping for a nice deep “ v8 “ throaty type of sound but instead I got a wanna be Nissan 350z on methamphetamine any ideas of one that sounds much much better and deeper?

It’s a V6, you’ll never get it to sound like a v8. Put the factory exhaust back in and return the dynomax garbage.

Didn’t actually mean v8 haha just deeper and throatier. Factory exhaust is cut out

All you're going to do is make your truck sound like a Honda Civic with a coffee-can muffler on it.

When I bought my truck used, it had a Masterflow™ muffler on it that had a terrible drone. A pain in the ass to listen to on the highway, and I'm sure my neighbors loved me.

I'm sure they're going to love you, too, if you put a loud-ass exhaust on your truck. It's dumb.

I cut the masterflow off & welded back on the stock muffler and am much happier now.

Interesting… but see that’s my thing at my age (22 ) I’ve already gone through the loud muffler stage in life. Hate them prefer a clean sounding vehicle more than anything especially where I live with all the shitboxes that drive past my neighborhood. I’m not into loud exhausts I’m into “ good sounding “ exhausts aswell as wanting to benefit the exhaust flow through my truck and open it up a bit… even with the horrible dynomax there is a noticeable amount of added power and throttle response. Just can’t get over how ugly and shitboxy it sounds. Strictly want an exhaust for deep tone and performance.

I have a Magnaflow catback system on mine (it more than doubled in price since I got it though), not terribly loud unless you really get into it and little interior drone.
I hated the stock exhaust, I couldn't even tell the truck was running aside from the engine noise.

Here's a comparison video that has some assorted muffler sound clips.

Fantastic video, never heard so many exhausts recorded in a uniform & consistent way lined up one after another. Out of all of those a couple of the Flowmaster cat-backs at least don't sound absolutely disastrous. The rest are just a bane to neighbors.

Get another stock exhaust or the TRD exhaust. All power gains are in your head and not reality. The TRD exhaust is slightly deeper and more noticeable but not loud by any means.

Curious which model did you go with? I went with the largest sized ultraflo and don't have any complaints about the sound.

Gibson has always made sweet sounding stainless exhausts. Not sure whether they still make them or whether they have one for second gens, but it's worth looking into.

Back in 2015 I bought a Borla exhaust. It sounded really nice but a little loud. After some time I noticed that too many other vehicles wanted to race me so I had the Borla exhaust tip cut off and replaced with a Borla resonated exhaust tip. Sound is just right to me now. As always to each his own opinion.

I've had the Magnaflow Street Series Cat-Back Performance exhaust on my 2015 Tacoma Sport since I bought it new.
The sound is very nice, no unwanted droning noise like other aftermarket exhaust systems when running at typical highway cruising speeds.
It's a real nice, when you get on it, it has a nice deep throaty sound, not obnoxious.

Im actually pretty happy with the way my truck sounds. Dont care about modifying the sound (personally). Id be more interested in knowing how much less restriction and temp build up at the headers is achieved.

If you can afford it and find them I hear Doug thorley headers are amazing. Way less restrictive and surprising horsepower and torque gains!

Ive recently been thinking about headers. Im also under warranty for a while and dont want to fuck that up if something goes wrong. Lots of things Id like to add to the truck in time.

That may be the reason. The short mufflers won't have much resonance.
