Hi everybody, I’ve been researching wheels and tires and seeing a lot of guys running either BFG’s or Falken’s a few Toyo’s and Nitto’s sprinkled in. The majority seems to be Falken’s.

Is there a reason I don’t see a lot of GoodYear Duratrac?

    thanks

When I got my ko2, duratracks went for about $25 more each. So that’s why I don’t have them.

Duratracs are great snow tires (when new), but a major complaint is that the tire technology used is a bit old. They also tend to wear quickly and get loud as they do so. Some people have had issues with sidewall strength, but I think that is a bit blown out of proportion.

If you'd like a similar tire, that is brand new tech, and is made by Goodyear's sister company... try the Cooper Discoverer Rugged Trek. I love mine and was also heavily considering Duratracs.

Duratracs came on my truck and when they got about 30K miles on them they honestly were kinda loud. They looked great and handled awesome offroad, guess it could be price wise why many aren't running them

Ive used more than a few brands of tires now and I can honestly say that the duratracs I had were underwhelming for how I use my truck. some guys swear by them though. You can sometimes find them for a good price but I found that the rubber was softer and wore our quicker than my other MT's. Loud AF as well compared to my Yokohamas

I just picked up a new set. They were cheaper than Ko2s for me, but I did go with the passenger version of the duratracs as I'm not doing any crazy off-roading. As well I have a sport so didn't want a even stiffer ride with a 10ply tire. I hear they are better in the rain.

I'm in the pro-Duratrac camp, with three sets on my vehicles. '19 came with the Nitto Ridgegrappler and I really didn't like those tires at all, esp in comparison to the Duratracs. Much better in the snow, decent wear, 10 ply, and not super loud (although at this point I may just be used to the noise).

Got duratrac on my 2017 . Look great. And not that heavy too. I got the load c. For noise, it’s not that bad. Rides great too. I’m on my second set still have a lot of thread left at 45t miles on the first and was able to sell it at 250$ for the set.

I had duratracs on my last vehicle, a 2006 Jeep Liberty. I will preface this with the following: By the time I got rid of it, I hated that vehicle. I had modified it way more than I should have for a daily driver, (lift, gears, detroit true tracs in both axles, Etc...). The duratracs seemed like a great tire at first but I wouldn't ever put them on a daily driver again unless they were on a spare set of wheels for winter/off-road use. Keep in mind the DTTs made the jeep a bit pushy in turns and more prone to sliding out/drifting.

The duratracs were great on dry pavement as well as in snow and off road. however, they weren't that good on wet roads, and if you didn't rotate them every 3,500 miles it the truck become a helicopter flight sim. Overall I found that they were an alright tire for my application. I replaced them with a set of yokohama geolandar a/t GO15's and they were an awesome tire, much quieter, rotation every 5k was more than fine, great on wet pavement and in snow, never took them off road though.

GoodYear Duratracs came on my truck. Living in the South, I don't deal with the snow as much as I did living in the NW. However, it handled the foot or so of snow earlier this year like a champ. Wet weather feels stable. No loud road noise yet. I love them so far. I guess time will tell...

Love my Duratracs, started using them 10+ years ago and haven't used anything else since. Good traction on and off road, as good as any off road tire can be on wet roads, and good in snow. Mine have always worn well, plenty of miles, and I've never had a tire failure with them.

I've had Duratracs for a couple years now. I got them mainly because they are great in the snow, which I can attest to. They are a bit loud though. Also running load C.

Duratracs are the most aggressive A/T tire out there, period!

So yes, they will get loud, as all the aggressive tires do. I'm on my 4th winter, and they are still great. It comes down to what the Op wants/needs.

Personally I would get them again, especially if they came out with a 33" 255 pizza cutter. 265/75/16 Duratracs is what Toyota should have put on the Taco, not those Kevlar "Highway Tires".

Except they don’t make these in 265/75/16 for some reason.

Correct. They are a relatively new offering and I'm hopeful that new sizes are in the works.

The OP didn't specify a desired size... so I just threw out this model as a possible alternative. Mostly because I was dead set on DirtyTracks, but after a ton of research and talking to numerous tire shops, I found the Rugged Treks and gave them a try. I've been very happy with them and I'm crossing my fingers that a 285/75/16 will be offered soon, as I have a desired set of 16's to put them on.

I know you got your answer, but I'm gonna pile on some praise for the Duratracs.

Had them on my first 3rd gen Tacoma. SL not Load C or E. They had better grip than the stock Goodyears or the stock Toyos (SR5s) in all conditions including rain. The massive amount of siping was evident in rain and slush, but that grip diminished slightly as the tires aged. In snow they were unbeaten by any tire I've previously owned. I used them on beaches without issue. I hit a massive puddle in OBX after two days of rain. Was so deep I splashed water onto my windshield, but there wasn't a hint of hydroplaning. They handled light offroad duty as well whenever I went camping or MTBing. My dealership is trustworthy so I still go to them, and with the amount of wear the Duratracs had after 5k, 10k, 15k, etc they'd last atleast 65-75k safely.

I'll probably get them again or the Cooper Rugged Treks when I need tires.

When I levelled my F150 I put Kelly Safari TSR's on it. My buddy was doing tires and suggested them. Said they were similar to the Duratracs but were cheaper and would wear better. After those were done I went with Duratracs. Both tires were great but my truck rode rougher with the Duratracs. As far as wearing faster, I had around 100,000km's on my Duratracs and they still had some tread left. Was going to go with KO2's for my Tacoma but the Falkens were suggested. Never really considered them but after some research they got great reviews so figured I'd give them a go.

I run Duratracs on my Wrangler and love them. When my 21 needs new tires, I'll probably go with them on the Taco as well. It will be a while though. Bought the truck new in Nov 20 and just turned over 4k miles.
