I was given Duralast struts and shocks for my double cab. I have heard that Duralast struts on a double cab will sag the front because the cab is to heavy? Just wondering if this is true before I try to install them myself. Thank you in advance.

Following. Seems like nobody offers an assembled shock for a double cab.

Springs are what holds weight, not shocks.

So is this an assembled coilover you are asking about? Or just the shock?

For what ever reason even though we use Front Shocks it seems vendors market the assembled spring and shock as Quick Struts or something with strut involved.

    it gets confusing

I have assembled coilovers for the fronts and shocks for the rear.

I’m also super new to working on my own truck so that doesn’t help either haha

The shocks have nothing to do with it sagging. The spring rating of the front springs does. Just like the rear is supported by the leaf springs and not the rear shocks.

The shocks are just there to help control rebound

If sag is common on double cabs with this setup then it's because the coils have a lighter spring rating than necessary. All you need are heavier duty coils, or just swap them out for a different coilover altogether. But keep in mind the shocks have nothing to do with it

If it is just you in the truck then you can go with whatever firmness in ride you want. If you have a wife/gf they dont want a harse stiff ride. There are a few stories on the forum where the guys wife doesnt want to take the Tacoma because it rides to rough. I was told a few years back that the SR in the trim level stands for Soft Ride, can I prove it, no.

SR/SR5 means Sport Rally or Sport Rally 5 speed. It's a throwback to early 80s Toyotas of old

    https://www.baierltoyota.com/blog/w...bucks the normal trend,or Sport Rally 5-speed.

So would it be worth trying to find coils to fit in the front or just buy a whole new coilover?

Duralast shocks are pretty low quality, it's not like Bilstein's are THAT much more expensive, especially given that they tend to last far past the extra cost is forgotten about.

Gas charged shocks that aren't charged worth a darn or lose that charge quickly can cause a bit of a mild sag but were are usually talking a small amount.

You could go either way honestly, I don't know much about Duralast coilovers but if they're pretty inexpensive it might be better to just return the whole assembly for a different one, rather than go to the trouble of separating the shock from the spring and putting on a new set

Are there any coinovers that you would recommend for the double cab that are relatively inexpensive but still decent quality?

Honestly I'm like most on here and more familiar with aftermarket lift components rather than OE/Stock replacement ones.

For stock replacements I'd look at what Rockauto lists on their site as being the top tier/performance quality brands, they do a good job of categorizing stuff based on quality.

sorry for all the questions haha but I would eventually want to lift the truck so should I pay a bit more now for an aftermarket lift? If so what do you recommend?

OME Old Man Emu brand or 5100s with OME springs. Both are more affordable than performance coilovers and ride nicely. Whichever springs you get from OME is determined by how much lift you want/how heavy your truck is with add ons
