I have a 2010 X-Runner, trying to put my gate opener in the overhead console. Not program it, mine doesn't have homelink, just the compartment where you are supposed to secure your opener and have the button on the compartment lid press the button on the remote.

Since I purchased the truck used there may or may not be parts missing. I would RTFM, but I don't have an owners manual and the one that I found on the interwebs is for a later truck and didn't cover this (plenty of homelink info though).

Any info would be helpful, thanks.

I'm not clear on your question.

In the overhead console on my truck, there is a compartment where you put a garage/gate opener. How do I attach the opener in the compartment so when you press the button on the lid of said console, it opens the gate? Is there supposed to be some kind of bracket in there that you put the opener in? ETA: It seems most Tacomas have a compass/outside temp display in that spot instead of a garage door opener holder.

There should be Velcro. One piece mounted to the top of the compartment and you put the other piece on the back of the remote. Then there are normally little pieces that are different sizes that slide in a groove on the compartment door that are directly under the button on the remote. When you push the button, that piece makes contact on the button.

My 2011 came with a length of male/female velcro, also a plastic extrusion tree that had several miniature leggo like spacers that can be plugged into the lid of the compartment. Use velcro to mount remote in compartment, then use the mini lego thingies as spacers between lid button and remote.

AH HA! Now it makes sense.
Went and looked at mine, can see where there used to be velcro on the top of the compartment.
Wonder where I can get the "Legos". Dealership would probably want to try to sell me a whole new console.

I'm sure you can find velcro with adhesive in a fabric or craft shop. Did you end up with none of the little lego blocks to stack on the back of the button? I am sure my truck came with 4-ish, and I only needed to use 2. You should be able to find a buddy with a Tacoma to hook you up with a couple of his extras.

    None legos. :(

Adhesive backed velcro is something I have tons of.

If somebody could snap a pic of the lego blocks, I would appreciate it. Probably be able to whip up something if I knew what they looked like.

Here is an iPhone shot of the inside of the door. You can see I have a single block on the back side of my button more or less in the center of the picture. And, four spare blocks hanging on small tabs on the right side of the picture. The concept is to stack blocks onto the back side of the button till you have the right length to engage the open button on the garage door opener that is velcro'd to the top of the opening.

Not as easy to explain without the picture that is probably worth several hundred, if not a thousand, words.

Hard to believe these would be expensive, even harder to believe you couldn't get a couple from a friend, or just take a piece of plastic and the right size drill and make one. But, if all else fails, pm me. Equally hard for me to believe my next garage door opener will need all 5 of my remaining blocks.

    Thanks!

I have a call in to my brother, he has a 2010 doublecab, he is checking to see if he can find his spares. My cousin is also looking for the extras from his 4runner.

If not, I will check with the dealership I bought my truck from, if that fails, I may take you up on your offer.

ETA: I wonder if real Legos would fit. Nieces and nephews have tons of em.
