Has anyone successfully used a Rockford DSR1 (or the Maestro AR) on a 2021 with JBL? Or even a 2020 for that matter as it seems like they switched some things up on the 2020+.

I tried installing the DSR1 on my 2021 today and am not getting any output. I get power and sound to the DSR1, and I’ve tested to make sure my amp and everything works with an RCA to 3.5mm...all good there. The sound is definitely dying somewhere between the input and output of the DSR1.

Maestro AR on 2021 has a different flash than 2020.

Yeah. We finally got it figured out. They ended up coming to my house and using my truck to run some diagnostics and setting up a custom firmware. They confirmed the software in the 2021 Tacoma is different than other Toyota models of the same year. Really weird. But they got it working so I’m happy!

I just picked up this module myself. Do you install it by the factory amp in the back or behind the head unit?

thanks for the quick reply! Based on what I read it T’s into the stock harness and the factory JBL amp remains plugged in? I was thinking about installing the new amp under the passenger seat.

Can you elaborate on what this module does? I have the JBL system in my truck but was rather disappointed in the overall performance.

It doesn’t T into the factory amp. This module allows you to install an aftermarket amp and you are able to completely remove the factory one from the truck.

Did you get the wiring harness that’s sold separately as well? Bc you need that in order to make it completely plug and play (ie not have to snip any factory wires)

That is even better. Maybe I will put the new amp where the factory one is. The other spot I was thinking was under the passenger seat. I am a sucker for a clean looking install that looks stock.

This is what I ended up doing. I didn’t want a ton of additional bass so I just went with another 8”. It’s plenty for me and much better than the factory JBL. EEFBFD1B-B283-4DD3-A495-84DAB590126B.jpg

Great looking setup. I am stuck on one part though. I am using the datalink harness (HRN-AR-T033), and noticed that there is an extra plug into factory JBL subwoofer to hook into the factory amp. There isn't a connector for this on the harness. I am guessing you wound up running new wire for your sub since you didn't stick with the stock box?

It’s been quite a while since I installed my stuff so I don’t remember exactly offhand. If you can add some pictures of what you’re referring to I can try to help out.

but my aftermarket sub is connected directly to my aftermarket amp. Nothing from the harnesses gets connected to my sub.

OP, do you use one of the extensions to get your DSR1 to put it in the factory amp spot? And how was install? I'm really intrigued in this.
    TIA

You do need a harness but the harness is only a foot or so long bc you connect it to the factory harness that plugs into the factory amp. Install was pretty simple but apparently I was the first person to try it on a 2021 and the firmware wasn’t working correctly. The company was great to work with tho. Someone actually came to my house and did a bunch of diagnostics so that the firmware would work properly. I’ve had it installed for quite a while not with no issues really.

Hi, I will be posting a DSR-1 with HRN-AR-T03 harness in the for sale section. It was in my Tundra but should work with the Tacoma once it is reprogramed.

Did you build up that box yourself? I'm looking to upgrade but I already have a radio setup under the seat and having the amp and sub mounted on the back wall there is a much better use of space even forgoing the sub performance.
