    Hi All,

Anyone using a dry filter in thier TRD CAI, and if so, what exactly are you using?

Not looking to oil my MAF.

Seems only natural my Pro should have the CAI as it has most of the TRD goodies.

    Thanks!

According to the TRD website, the TRD CAI comes with an oiled coton filter. I would prefer a dry filter as I do not want to contaminate my MAF. It's possible to just buy a new filter rather than clean this one. I wold rather just buy a system that uses dry however.

So it would appear people just use the OE replacement then, thank you. Happen to have a part number?

My aFe Power uses a dry filter. Not sure if it would fit your housing or would need to change out the whole thing.

Thanks for this one. I was looking at the various aFe configurations for those massive claimed power increases. I will go that way if I can't find a suitable resolution with the TRD version.

I've been considering this, how you like it so far ? And what exhaust did you pair it with if any?
    Thanks

I really like it, since that picture I added the front scoop. Despite what the haters here say about CAI's I noticed better performance and it sounds great! I haven't changed the exhaust yet. Not sure when that will happen.

You can use the OE stock air filter in the TRD intake instead of the oiled one.

I had a TRD CAI on my 05 Sport for a long time, over 50,000 miles. I forget exactly but never had any issues with the MAF or anything else. Liked it so much that I have a TRD CAI in both the 13 T4R LTD (just cleaned & oiled) for over a year and in the 17 Taco LTD. No issues so far with either.

I forgot to mention, the TRD CAI for the 16/17 Taco uses the same air box lower and TRD filter as stock, so if the dry afe or other brand will fit stock, then it will fit with the TRD CAI. I got the TRD air filter first and is the same filter that came with the CAI. I have a spare NIB TRD air filter ( part # PTR03-34140)

The stock dry won't fit in the TRD intake. I've tried. The dry is a tiny bit thicker and won't allow the top close.

Jane you tried aFe, K&N or similar? Just wondering if I want to get into replacing TRD filters.

Looks like the aFe has way less capacity. How long have you found it lasts? What does it fit?

AFE Dry-flow fits either OEM or TRD intake very well - they use the same lower. I've had mine about a year and upon inspection it's doing quite well. Banged a few bugs out, but have not needed to clean it yet.

Excellent. That's what I wanted to know.

So I can order the TRD CAI and the aFe dry filter and go that way. I don't mind replacing the filter every 10k miles or something.

    Thank you very much.

You're actually better off just ordering the parts for the TRD CAI then. that is what I did. There was a post somewhere on what those are and p/n's.
