    Hey everyone,

Looks like my driver's side rear leafed snapped today while on the way to work. It does look like I'm covered with the recall, but I called the local dealer and they said May 9th was the next time I could get in which doesn't work as I'm moving first May and need my truck. So, my options are trying 2 other dealers which are both 100km away involving me driving there with a broken leaf which im not super stoked on.

Should I even bother trying or just take the hit and try changing the leaf packs myself?

Any basic repair shop should be able to do it. Don't need to wait on the dealer.

Its just covered by a recall so they'll do it at no cost to me is the thing.

Yeah but he has a warranty and doesn't want to pay out of pocket.

I snapped a leaf years ago, just tucked the broken leaf back into the pack and duck taped it in place till I could get a new pack on a week or two later. Have a pic?

May want secure it with wire the leaf can slide out into wheel or gas tank.
If it is covered have the dealer do it.

I snapped the same leaf. I'd secure it, take it easy this week, and let the dealer do it for free.

That's rough enough...but reading the title, I thought you broke the entire spring (all leaves) and were going to drive on that.

A picture is worth 1000 words in this case. That's not nearly as bad as what I pictured in my head.

I’d hit it with some zip ties, wire, or tape to prevent the leaf from slipping out into your wheel or gas tank and drive it to one of the other dealers 100km away.

I wouldn’t worry about driving it to a shop to get fixed but I would not drive around on that for a month.

Throw a couple hose clamps on it and send it
    :anonymous:

.. to the closest dealer that can get it replaced in time

It needs to be removed. It was recalled because fractured leafs were gouging gas tanks and brake lines. Get it out, and it will be fine.

Pull out the broken piece if you can, or secure with hose clamps.

Here’s what mine looked like when I replaced mine last summer. I broke both sides, about a week apart from each other. It’s interesting that the same spring breaks in the same location on every one I’ve seen so far.

Since my truck is a 2.5 sport it already came with the tsb springs from the factory so I wasn’t eligible for replacement. DIY is an easy job and can be done in less than 2 hours.

The danger is that it will puncture the fuel tank. I'd not drive it.

They did this recall years ago. Mine never broke, but they replaced mine over 2 years ago. And I was on a waiting list for over a year. They were replacing the damaged ones 1st and I kept getting pushed to the back of the line. Why did you wait until it broke?

Yea in hindsight I should have got them replaced sooner.
