Drivers side grab handle

Just called the dealership and the parts guys are saying the handle is universal for both sides but they are doubting the mounting stuff is underneath the panels .. anyone get a drivers side grab handle installed cause I need something to pull my fat ass in the truck and I don't think using the steering wheel is good .. and I hate the look of running boards or steps ... kinda confused why they didn't put one on the drivers side and put one on the passenger side.. to me that makes no sense ..

 

Maybe lose some weight...so it's easier to get in your truck?

After some light reading I don't think i need that in my life ..

 

Convert it to right side steer, the handle problem is solved

 

i dont know about universal...panel on the drivers side will be totally different than the right..

 

Definitely not universal as the spacing between the mounting points is different.

And, you made the right decision about not getting the KTJO 4x4 one. Sorry!

 

I’d say you’re making the right decision.
Also, I’d question your dealer telling you the OE handle is “universal”

 

Is there any viable alternative solutions here? Lol!! Not mounting any kinda steps to the truck I've never liked the idea of them bolted into the truck nore do I like the way it looks .. .. I seen some gadget once that goes into the door hook for elderly people getting in and outta cars .. lol lol!!

 

Unfortunately, no. No other good vendors have taken up the task.

 

You could mount a strap in the location of the upper bolt. There has been posts about doing so, somewhere on this site.

I don’t think the TOYOTA knucklehead who signed off on taking out the driver’s side door handle was thinking about the pregnant women, people with disabilities or back issues that drive the Tacoma when the decision was made to delete it

 

Well that's one of the better arguments for it that i have heard in a long time..


Or maybe some people don't like to slide into the seat so it will last a lot longer.

 

I have the KTJO version-1 handle. Install was somewhat difficult, but the result was well worth it. There was a post a few days ago about the version-2 handle. The guy said the install was smooth, and the QC issues that some had in the past were non-existant.

 

But to be fair to TOYOTA, other knucklehead auto makers have done the same thing on cars
