After a visit to my local Toyota dealer the tech said the lower front driver's side ball joint needs to be replaced. It is leaking grease and I can see it is wet all around the ball joint area but not a lot of grease. I have no driving issues or noises. Do I have some time before replacing it or is it best to replace it now?

I have the same issue. I was hoping for some sage advice.

Sure there's time. Nobody can know even an estimate of how long.
Once the grease is gone and dirt/water gets in, your ball joint will be toast.

It isn't something you want failing while driving.

    I recommend changing asap.

You can check to see if there is play in it. If no play, and no weird noises, you probably have some time. There’s quite a few YouTube videos on how to check lower ball joints.

Do you have some time before replacing? PROBABLY

Is it best to replace it now? ABSOLUTELY

a little time and with this, I will say, you can change just the lower ball joint, but good luck on getting the cam bolts out unscathed. Most people have to cut them out. Also, since your truck is about as old as mine, Im guessing the bushings are about shot as well. So, with all that, you can buy OEM lower control arms, ball joints installed, bushing installed, and change the entire assembly easier than "just changing the ball joint" because you wont be just changing the ball joint...just sage advice my friend...

Dirt King makes some nice lca's as do a few other companies. OEM will be cheaper.
